Maximizing Your United Credit Card

The Chase United credit cards have seen some pretty good bonuses over the last couple of years. The standard offer is 30,000 miles but there have been targeted offers that have been at the 50,000 mile level. As a result, many people have these cards. The cards themselves have some value for the traveler who only flies on United a few times a year. Cardholders receive a waiver on the fee for their first checked bag which can save $50 on each round-trip, if the trip is paid for with that card. It also gives two free …

Buy US Airways Mile Promo – Up To 100% Bonus

US Airways is back at it again – selling their miles at a lower level than normal. The most popular (and best) option to purchase US Airway miles is always during their share promos that give bonuses of 100% when you share your miles with another. At that point, you are basically paying 1.1 cents per mile. That type of spending on miles can even make sense if you redeem for some…

JetBlue Mosaic Status – Finally Received

I wrote a couple of months ago about JetBlue offering status matches for their Mosaic status to elite members of various airlines. I had matched my Delta status to it and received notice of acceptance of the status offer a couple of weeks later. My wife had matched her Southwest Companion Pass to it (which, strangely enough, is acceptable). Time has gone by and she never…

Am I Buying This Car? Paying $3,000 Too Much For A Rental

I had written last month about the offers from rental car companies to drive their cars out of Florida at a reduced rate. By far, the best deal from the companies came from National since they allowed rentals of up to 21 days and you could return it anywhere outside of Florida (other places had restricted return locations). I needed a car for a few weeks while I was in the US and the regular things I do to find cheap rental car rates was not working. That left me with running…

Points Posting From Staples Visas

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about the news that Staples is selling $200 Visa Gift cards. In that post, I showed how you can earn big points by purchasing these cards online and then how to use it. Ordering Visa Gift Cards from Staples Online After I ordered them, they arrived about a week later. They each came in a separate paper within the envelope. Before the cards came, a letter came from Staples with the activation codes (do not throw this out!). Once the cards arrived…

United Releases New iPad App Update For Free Video Streaming

On Wednesday, United issued an update to their iPad app to allow for video streaming content on several of their aircraft. The move was announced a while back and now iPad users can have the app ready to go for aircraft that have been updated with the new hardware. United says that it will be streaming 150 movies and more than 200 TV shows and will do it for…

The Hyatt Diamond Challenge – The How and Why

Hotel status can be a very beneficial thing to have. There are a lot of perks that go beyond room upgrades that elites can receive. This always helps the travel experience to be more enjoyable. I have written before about how helpful mid-tier status can be and how you can get it. With certain hotels, obtaining top-tier status can be earned by credit card spending (spending $40,000 on the Citi Hilton Reserve to obtain Hilton Diamond) or by simply holding…

When Is Premium Airline Travel Too Much?

Many people are interested in miles and points because of the opportunity that they afford to travel in more premium conditions for the same cost as economy – or for almost nothing at all! Because of miles and points, I have had the opportunity to travel in some very nice airplane cabins – First Class on Cathay Pacific, First Class on Emirates A380 (with the shower – best post-race flight ever!), and (my favorite) Suites Class on Singapore Airlines A380, to name a few. These travel experiences were certainly…
