In light of the two increases on Hilton cards today and the fact that another great offer is on its last (official) day, here is how you can get 250,000 Hilton points with 3 cards! That many points can give you 50 nights at Category 1 hotels!

Hilton has the unusual relationship of being partnered with both American Express and Citi. This is not something other airline/hotel programs do but it gives Hilton members a unique angle to pick up as many points as possible. Since each bank as their strengths/weaknesses, it is really nice to have the option. As you read through this, take note that the point cards (the no-fee Amex and Citi cards and the Amex Hilton Surpass card) are all limited-time offers. The Citi Hilton Reserve with its 2 free nights has had that bonus for a long-time so keep this in mind if you are trying to figure out which cards to get first.

American Express Hilton Surpass – 100,000 Hilton Points

100K Hilton points

This is the top Hilton/Amex card available so it does come with an annual fee and one that is due up front – $75. But, you are getting the most points out of all the cards with this offer so spending $75 to get the 100,000 points is not bad.

Which Cards To Get?

The last one, the Citi Hilton Visa, is due to expire today (3/31). This is what I am hearing from other bloggers but not sure if that is just their affiliate links that expire today or the public ones as well. Citi cards do often have a shadow life that can extend for a few more days but today is the last “public” day for this offer. So, if you want it, you should consider getting it today. As long as you are applying, you may want to get one of the Amex Hilton cards as well. Both of the upgraded Amex Hilton offers are good through May 4, so that leaves you plenty of time to get both of them.

If you want Hilton points, I think these three cards are a great way to rack them up quickly. The spending is minimal, requiring a total of $6,000 across all 3 cards to get the full 250,000 Hilton points. That many points translates to a lot of mid-range hotel nights! In fact, it can even give you some of the higher end hotel nights as well. If you threw a Citi Reserve in, you would get 2 additional weekend nights to go with it.

Adding Up The Numbers

So, here is how it adds up if you are interested in going for all of these cards:

  • You will pay $75 in annual fees up front
  • You will need to spend $6,000 across these cards in the first 3 months
  • You will have Gold status (from the Surpass
  • You will receive 250,000 Hilton points
  • The points are enough to provide anywhere from 50 nights at Category 1 hotels to 2.5 nights at Category 10 hotels in peak season for those locations (3.5 nights at the non-peak end of the Category 10 hotels)

230,000 Hilton points

If you still needed more Hilton points after collecting all of those, the best card to use would be the Amex Hilton Surpass for restaurants, supermarkets, and gas stations (you will earn 6 points per dollar).

Summary

Sure, Hilton points are not worth as much as SPG points are, but there are a ton of ways to extract extreme value from Hilton points. They have a massive international footprint and there is a wide range of hotels across their categories. When you figure in the 5th night free, you can get a lot of great nights with 250,000 Hilton points! But, make sure you act on the Citi card today to get started!

  • I was told by AmEx that the two cards (Surpass and AmEx Hilton) are considered the same card and applicants are not eligible to hold both. I thought this was odd considering they are separate cards. Curious if others had similar experiences.

    • That rep was definitely wrong. Call back again as even the language on the products specify that specific product. Plus, I have 3 Surpass cards so you can have the same exact card. 🙂
