Unexpected Membership Reward Points

I didn’t think it was possible. I hope it wasn’t a mistake. When I logged onto my American Express account today, I saw my point total had increased. I wasn’t expecting any points, since my statements weren’t closing anytime soon. Once I dug deeper, I saw some unexpected posting of points, that I never thought I’d see!

Unexpected Membership Reward Points

Over the last few months I feel  I have spoken about American Express quite a bit. I will try to tone that down a bit, but today I must give praise to American Express. In all fairness, you have to give credit where credit is due, right?

After writing about updates I’d like to see changed in 2017, I had hoped for some sort of changes from American Express.  Now, I HIGHLY doubt they read anything I wrote, but I can wish :-).

Fast forward to this evening, where I was looking to see if I  had any targeted Amex Offers on my American Express accounts. I noticed my points had increased about 1,200 points. I wasn’t expecting any points to post, since my statement dates weren’t closing anytime soon.

We all know about the crazy lag time American Express has on posting of their points. I decided to click on my point summary to see what had occurred.

When I clicked I received an unexpected surprise!

Last week, I told you how I might have gotten a little crazy with opening American Express cards. One of those cards was the American Express Blue for Business card.

The card gives me 10x points on restaurants for the next 6 months, and 2x on all purchases up to $50,000 for the first year. I had figured these would post with my other points in about 2 months. I was wrong!

Much to my surprise, American Express is posting my bonus categories as my transactions post! This is a great change for Membership Rewards! I hope this starts a trend for other Membership Reward points to post sooner as well

Now I am sure the other points will post with the normal one month lag time, but I think this is a move in the right direction for American Express.

Conclusion:

This is a small victory in Membership Rewards posting sooner than expected. Although these points came from only my bonus categories on my American Express Blue for Business, I am hoping this expands to other cards. It is great to see my point total increase with these bonus categories as the transactions post.
