SPG has recently launched a promo that is targeted but is a great deal for those who can use it! The promo is to stay in a SPG-participating property from December 1, 2012 – February 28, 2013 for one night and earn a free award night in a Category 1-6 for a weekend night. The free night must be used by February 28, 2014. If you are eligible to participate in this promo, then you should definitely take advantage of it. My wife was eligible and we have to travel within this timeframe anyway, so we are going to make sure it is a SPG property. So, for less than $100, we will be able to stay at a hotel that could cost over $500 or 20,000 points for free! Category 6 is not the highest (it goes up to 7), but there are many St. Regis hotels that are classified as Category 6. So, were you part of this targeted SPG promotion? No one in my family received the e-mail that some got inviting them to participate in the promo, but 2 family members were able to apply and are currently registered for it. Not a very scientific sample, but here are are the data points:

- Person 2 – SPG member with no stays this year and 1K SPG points and SPG Amex card – YES
- Person 3 – SPG member with no stays this year and no SPG points and SPG Amex card – NO
