Still Alive: Southwest Cards At 60,000 Points Each = Easy Southwest Companion Pass

Here is a great example of how card offer expirations go – there is an “end date” that is publicized by the card issuer and affiliates and then the card’s public links stick around for a few more weeks. This happens often with cards and, fortunately for any of you who missed them, it has happened with the Southwest cards! All 3 cards are still at 60,000 points each! But, they could go away at any time so consider applying soon!

But, maybe you are only able to get one of the Southwest cards right now (maybe you had two of the other ones and their bonuses in the last 24 months or maybe you only have enough ceiling under 5/24 for a single Chase application). It that is the case, or maybe you only want one right now, here is how you can get the other 50,000 points you will need to hit the 110,000 points for the Southwest Companion Pass.

So, one card will give you 60,000 points (plus the 2,000 or 3,000 extra from the minimum spending). Where do you get the other 50,000 points?

Refer-A-Friend Bonuses!

Edit: To be clear, the current referral bonuses are at 40,000 points. I am not suggesting you have your friends/family sign up for that through your link! But, if they don’t want to sign-up now, they can always wait until your referral is back up to 50k or even 60k and refer them then!

Chase offers a very generous 10,000 points per successful referral of the Southwest card – up to 50,000 points per calendar year. That means you only need to get 5 friends/family members to sign up for the card you get (through your link) and you will get the other 50,000 points!

These referral points actually do count towards the Companion Pass so you can lock up the Southwest Companion Pass with just one card bonus and 5 successful referral bonuses from that card. While 5 cards may sound like a lot, remember that these bonuses are incredibly valuable and can give each card holder at least $600 in travel on Southwest (with the current referral offer – not suggesting you have them sign up now). If they do not travel much, they could also exchange those points in for gift cards.

Note: The current referral offers are only for 40,000 points so you may want to hold off on having anyone sign up through your referral offers right now. They will likely be back to 50,000 points again around October. Or, tell them about the current offer so they can get 60,000 points also. 🙂
