The Basics

Staying Connected For Great Deals

Even with the changing landscape of airline and hotel loyalty programs, there are always still great deals to be had. Some of the recent deals that come to mind were the Wideroe deals (insanely cheap flights on United to Europe purchased through Wideroe Airlines) and the December 26 Delta deal (though it was definitely not planned!) that saw tickets all over the US available for under $40 – including first class! Another deal that was had recently was a great fare from United that featured their Detroit-Houston non-stop pricing out (in first class) for $129 round-trip! Not only do we see great deals in the travel world, but there are always incredible deals available for running gear. I see deals all the time – like a particular model of running shoe that normally goes for $130 at a discounted price of $40!

The problem comes with trying to cover all those deals! Since I write this blog in my spare time, it is not always easy to do an entire post on some great deal – especially when it disappears in a matter of hours! Also, not all deals that come are necessarily relevant to my broader reading audience. For example, with the recent Detroit-Houston fare, I knew it would not affect the majority of my readers and as a result, chose to not make a full post on it. The problem with that is that some people do benefit from deals like that and I definitely do not want to leave you out in the cold just because it does not impact my wider reading audience!

So, I am still trying to figure out the best way to quickly and efficiently communicate deals that are of a narrower focus (like a particular shoe model at 80% off) while still writing posts on the larger deals (like the Wideroe deal). For now, I will be taking to Twitter to tweet out the best deals I find and receive on all things travel and running. These deals may include selective airfare deals that I know may be of interest to some, race fee deals and discounts that come out, running gear discounts on select models, etc. I will tweet out what the deal is and where you can read more about it. So, if you want in on some great deals, you need to start following me on Twitter! You can get my feed and follow by clicking here.

Down the Road

For down the road, I am considering the addition of a separate tab or something similar on the blog itself where I can add these deals as they come along with a quick overview. These would be deals that I might not feel would make the best post for the blog itself (or I may not have the time to do such a post justice when it is a limited-time deal). Also, feel free to tweet me deals that you find or e-mail them to me at charlie at runningwithmiles.com. I am very thankful for the many, many of you who choose to read this blog and follow it along – I really am! I just want to be more of a help in anyway I can to help you save money on traveling and running. This is another step that I think can help do that.
