The Chase Sapphire Preferred has long been a go-to card for people in the travel space. While have recently seen it up to its normal high of 75,000 points, Chase has mixed things up this time with the 60,000 point offer coupled with a $300 travel credit. Let’s take a dive and see if this works for you.
Chase Sapphire Preferred Offer of 60,000 points and $300 Travel Credit

Here are the details on the Chase Sapphire Preferred 60,000 point offer + $300 credit:
- Earn 60,000 points after spending $4,000 in the first 3 months
- $300 in travel credit when you purchase travel through the Chase Travel portal
- 5x total points on all travel purchases through Chase Ultimate Rewards (up from a general 2x point earning on travel)
- 3x points on dining, including eligible delivery services, takeout, and dining out (previously at 2x)
- 3x points on select streaming services
- 3x points on online grocery purchases (excluding Target, Walmart, and wholesale clubs)
- $50 annual credit on hotel stays purchased through Ultimate Rewards.
- 10% anniversary point bonus (each account anniversary, cardmembers will earn bonus points equal to 10% of total purchases made the previous year. For example, if you spend $25,000 in a year, you will earn an additional 2,500 points)
- $95 annual fee

The Chase Travel $300 Credit Part of the Offer
If you are familiar with the Chase Sapphire Reserve and its annual $300 travel credit – this travel credit is not the same. While that one applies to any travel you book with your card (including things like tolls) and is an annual renewing credit, this one for the Chase Sapphire Preferred is not an annual credit and it comes as part of the sign-up bonus. And, it only applies to travel booked through the Chase Travel portal. So, is this offer better than the normal increased offer of 75,000 points?
What we have is a difference of 15,000 points and if you redeem those points through Chase for the 1.25 cents per point valuation, they are worth $187.50. So, the $300 travel credit is better. I have found myself often using my Chase points to book through the Travel portal over the years (but with my Chase Sapphire Reserve to get the 1.5 cents per point) because there are many flights that I book which cost way more in miles than the cost would be with cash. Plus, I need some revenue flights for my elite status renewal (since award flights don’t count for my selected program). In cases such as this, getting a travel credit to use through the Chase Travel portal is better than the increased 15,000 points.
But, if you exclusively transfer to travel partners, it is quite easy to get at least $300 in value out of the additional 15,000 points from the other offers we have seen. With Hyatt, for example, I have booked some rooms recently that gave me 2.8-3.2 cents in redemption value. That makes those 15,000 points worth more like $400 in travel! But, the big question is if this is the new increased offer or just a one-off. If this is the new offer, than waiting for the 75,000 point offer is moot since that wouldn’t be back around again. While waiting for increased offers is good, I look at it like this – what kind of value can you get from the card between now and 6 months and is it more than what a hypothetical offer could give you 6 months from now?
Without a doubt, the Chase Sapphire Preferred has remained as my go-to recommended card for people just getting into points or people wanting a consistent card for their point earning strategy. I have held it since launch and don’t plan to stop that anytime soon! Remember – this offer will net you almost $1,0000 towards travel if you redeem the points directly for travel (after subtracting the annual fee) and can help you get even more value if you transfer to travel partners! In short, this card offer is a good one!
