The Card That Jump Starts Your Path to Hyatt Elite Status

A new year means you need to start all over again with your loyalty programs! One of my favorite loyalty programs (and one I have been consistently loyal to for at least the last 7 years) is the World of Hyatt program. Since they changed the program, it takes more nights each year now than in the old program to get to mid-tier and top tier status. So, here is the card you need to jump start that loyalty trek!

Here are the three Hyatt elite levels and what it takes to achieve each one in nights each year:

• Discoverist – 10 nights
• Explorist – 30 nights
• Globalist – 60 nights

Globalist is actually a really great elite level to get with a lot of great benefits and there are benefits at various night points along the way. Here is what those are:

• 20 nights – 2 Club Lounge Access Awards
• 30 nights – 1 Free night at a Category 1 – 4 and 2 Club Awards
• 40 nights – 5,000 Bonus Points or A $100 Hyatt Gift Card or 10,000 Point savings on a FINDexperience
• 50 nights – 2 Suite Upgrade Awards
• 60 nights – 1 Category 1-7 Free Night Award and 2 Suite Upgrade Awards² and Access to My Hyatt Concierge

Then for each 10 nights after that, you get additional awards.

Plus, you get free breakfast, parking fees waived on award stays, suite upgrades, and more! It is really good to be a Globalist!

Even being Explorist still works great at many hotels for room upgrades (not suites, though I have had that happen), the Club awards, and other little perks.

Getting World of Hyatt Status in 2020

Even though the requirements have gone up from what they were a couple of years ago, Hyatt has made it easier to get those nights. That is the beauty of their World of Hyatt Credit Card.

Not only does it give you a lot of points for signing up (50,000 points) but you also get the great benefit of 5 elite nights each year you hold the card. That gives you a nice start to the year and reduces the overall number of nights you actually need to stay.

Plus, you get 2 elite night credits for every $5,000 you spend on the World of Hyatt card. Oh, and you should definitely do some spending on that card because when you hit $15,000, you will get another free Category 1 – 4 award – plus the 6 elite night credits for that spending!

That gives you 11 elite nights before you have even stayed in a hotel! You can also generate more elite nights with any spending on the World of Hyatt card and hitting that $5,000 threshold each time.

Plus, award nights and free nights work to counting towards elite status as well. That means that you could easily be at 13-15 nights by just having the World of Hyatt card, spending $15,000 on it, and using the points and free night you get! That is half way to Explorist status without spending a dime at a hotel!

The World of Hyatt Credit Card

Here is what you need to know about the World of Hyatt credit card.

• Earn 25,000 Hyatt points when you spend $3,000 in the first 3 months
• Earn an additional 25,000 Hyatt points when you spend a total of $6,000 in the first 6 months
• Annual fee of $95 (not waived)
• 9 points total for Hyatt stays
  • 4 Bonus Points per $1 spent with Hyatt, including participating restaurants and Exhale locations
  • PLUS, 5 Base Points per eligible $1 spent you can earn as a World of Hyatt member
• 2 points per dollar spent on local transit, commuting, restaurants, cafes, coffee shops, airline tickets purchased from the airline, fitness club and gym memberships
• 1 point per dollar on everything else
• 1 free Category 1 – 4 award each year of card membership
• Earn 2 elite night credits for every $5,000 spent.
• Earn 1 additional free Category 1 – 4 award after spending $15,000 in a year.

Bottom Line

Getting a jump start on elite status is always a good thing and the World of Hyatt card is a great way to do that for Hyatt elite status! I have this card and really appreciate all the perks it gives for its reasonable $95 annual fee.
