Austrian Airlines has been grounded for several weeks now and has had to keep pushing back their restart date. That date has sat at June 15 now for a little bit (the same date that the EU external borders will reopen) and, today, Austrian Airlines has released their full start up schedule.
Which Flights Will Austrian Airlines Start First
For a little while, the only destinations that Austrian had on their schedule for after June 15 were all short-haul flights. Based on travel bookings I have with them for the summer and the flight substitutions, it looked like they were going to very much be a “regional” airline for at least a little while.

Austrian Airlines Going Long-Haul as of July 1
But, the good news is that they will be adding long-haul routes pretty quickly to the schedule – starting July 1. Here is a look at the schedule for long-haul service as of June 4.
Austrian Airlines has made it clear that their first long-haul that will be started (followed the same day by others) will be their Vienna to JFK, taking off at 10:15AM on July 1. Following that, they will be starting their flights up to Bangkok, Chicago, and Washington. I had called their restart of flights to Chicago and Washington as some of their first but I did not think they would start flying to New York again so soon.
But, it isn’t all good news! Instead of being daily flights, these will be up to 3 times a week on each route. So, it will still be slow going for a while.
