St. George Marathon is Open!

Written by Charlie

The St. George Marathon is now open for entrants! If you know about the St. George Marathon, you know that it is (potentially) a very fast marathon. It starts at over 5,200 feet elevation and drops to 2,600. Due the beauty, the fast course, the great job that organizers do, etc, this race has many people who enter to run it. Due to their cap (which is 7,600 this year), they have a type of a lottery system where  they do drawings afte those guaranteed entries have been chosen.

To learn about the registration procedure, read their page here. If you submit an entry and are not selected for the marathon, you will receive a refund of your entry fee minus the processing fee. We are months off from the running of the St. George Marathon and you will have plenty of time to train and prepare for this fantastic marathon. I ran it last year and while I had some problems going in, I still really enjoyed the whole event and thought that the organizers did a fantastic job. This is definitely a group and city that goes all out for their hometown marathon!

Here are some details about the St. George Marathon:

  • To be held on October 5, 2013
  • Start time is 6:45AM for the runners
  • The marathon is the only distance offered
  • Start altitude is 5,243′
  • Finish altitude is 2,678′
  • Fee is $85
  • Cap is 7,600 runners
  • 2013 is the 37th running of the St. George Marathon

Because of how fantastic this marathon is, I will be writing a few posts about it in the next week to help you run this race. This marathon is one of the prime examples of how miles can get you where you may not be able to otherwise go. In the meantime, you can read about what I wrote last year about the race and the travel process: My Next Marathon and Transiting to a Race.

Will you enter for this year’s race? Why not! I will show you how to get there for free (or at least very little!) and you can take part in one of the fastest, most scenic races in the country!
