Welcome to the Best Point Earning for the Runner series. This is intended to help the runner obtain the best prices on gear while maximizing the points they can earn. I will cover many different sites and the best cards to use for which purchases as well as some of the best deals on gear.
Ok, I know this isn’t exactly what would be a Best Point Earning for the runner deal, but this is a great deal and a great program and I know it is a nice way to pick up some points while being able to learn a new language. Hey, maybe you are planning a destination marathon and would like to learn the language a bit first! I have used this deal to purchase two languages I am needing and really like the program. This deal is going on until March 31, so take advantage of it now if you are interested!
Best Point Earning for the Runner – Rosetta Stone
Rosetta Stone is one of the biggest, well-known language learning programs. I have used this and Pimsleur and believe that both are good programs but have different methods of arriving at language familiarity. Their program is used widely in the government and public sectors for how well it performs. Of course you will find bad reviews of it, but if you look at the site where most of the reviews are located, they are from competitor websites.
Rosetta Stone uses an approach that they call Dynamic Immersion. This technique uses pictures, text, video, or sound to introduce a word or phrase. There is no oral translation involved. This approach is very helpful for children as well (my kids are picking up on one of the languages quite well with it). The part about the course that I like the best is the TOTALe program that allows you to use an iPad for more of a hands-on learning experience. This is helpful so that you can basically do it from anyplace (with an internet connection) without having to use a computer. It allows for a more comfortable learning environment. This part of the program is a subscription program but you do get a few months free with the purchase of the program. You can set up the program for multiple users so each person can track their progress independently of the other.
I purchased one of the courses last year when their was a $50 discount on the program (regularly $399 for a Level 1, 2, and 3 language). I thought that was a good deal until I found a code last month that gave me $75 off of another Level 1, 2, and 3 language that I needed. That code was topped again this month with up to 35% off the programs, meaning I was able to purchase yet another program (Level 1, 2, and 3) for $299 instead of $399! Now, all Rosetta Stone retailers are offering that price, but I needed the download option (available through Rosetta Stone) and wanted the extra points, so I opted to purchase from them (through a shopping portal, of course). Note: Do not purchase directly from Rosetta Stone – make sure you go through one of the portals below to get the best price! This is an excellent deal that might not come around again for quite a while. If you are considering a language program, now would be the time! Here are the languages they offer and how many levels are available for each:
- Arabic (3 Levels)
- Chinese (Mandarin) (5 Levels)
- Dutch (3 Levels)
- English (American) (5 Levels)
- English (British) (5 Levels)
- Filipino (Tagalog) (3 Levels)
- French (5 Levels)
- German (5 Levels)
- Greek (3 Levels)
- Hebrew (3 Levels)
- Hindi (3 Levels)
- Irish (3 Levels)
- Italian (5 Levels)
- Japanese (3 Levels)
- Korean (3 Levels)
- Latin (3 Levels)
- Persian (Farsi) (3 Levels)
- Polish (3 Levels)
- Portuguese (Brazil) (3 Levels)
- Russian (5 Levels)
- Spanish (Latin America) (5 Levels)
- Spanish (Spain) (5 Levels)
- Swedish (3 Levels)
- Turkish (3 Levels)
- Vietnamese (3 Levels)
Now, if you go directly to Rosetta Stone to purchase these, you will actually not get the best deal. Normally, the best deals for vendors is directly through them while their affiliates have lesser deals or the same. Not the case in this sale. I receive the best deal ($20 off of what was available directly from Rosetta Stone) by going through the Ultimate Rewards mall. In this case, you are much better off going through affiliates for both the better deal and the points involved. Here are some of the best deals available for Rosetta Stone. I think the highlights are Discover’s Cashback (10%), Ultimate Rewards (8 points per dollar), and American Airlines with a staggering 14 miles per dollar. With AA, if you purchase a typical 3 Level course, you will earn 4,200 AA miles! That is tremendous!
- American Airlines (14 miles per dollar)
- British Airways (12 points per dollar -this is huge because a one-way, short-haul ticket on AA using BA points is 4,500 points -a $300 purchase earns 3,600!
- Discover Cashback (10% plus a 5% bonus for new customers)
- Delta Airlines (4 miles per dollar)
- Hawaiian Airlines (7.5 miles per dollar – HA miles convert to Hilton Hhonors at 2:1, so this would be 15 Hilton points per dollar)
- Marriott Rewards (10 points per dollar)
- Ultimate Rewards (8 points per dollar – these transfer to United at 1:1, so better to use this link than the United one)
- United Airlines (4 miles per dollar)
- US Airways (4 miles per dollar)
There you go! Obviously, the best deals are to be found with Ultimate Rewards, American Airlines, British Airways, Discover, and warmer deals with Hawaiian Airlines and Marriott Rewards. Again, this will all depend on what points you currently value as your focus point right now. In the case of British Airways, if you purchase a course of 5 Levels, you will be paying $324 and earning 3,888 Avios. Again, a one-way, short-haul (like Rochester to Chicago, which can be very expensive) on AA using Avios is only 4,500 points. In effect, you are buying something that you may have been buying anyway and earning almost a one-way ticket on a short route! Not bad! If you use Ultimate Rewards, that is like getting an additional 8% cash back (if you take the points as cash) and the Discover deal could potentially be 15% cash back!
This is a Best Point Earning opportunity that does not only benefit the runner but anyone who desires to add a language to your set of skills. If you have been thinking that one day you might like to learn a language, today or tomorrow should be the day you act on that! Get a great program at a great price with some fantastic points!
