The pinnacle of a running vacation hybrid has to be the Walt Disney World running events. Not only does it present a unique opportunity for many runners to participate in a variety of races, but it also gives a large running event with a family destination. This is the perfect race set if you want to take the family on a vacation and still get a great race in.
Walt Disney World Running Events Filling Fast
I have not run it, but have had many friends that have. Many of them really liked the event and their families liked it even more. Personally, I think the best thing to do is to give the race entry as a freebie for buying multi-day visit packs to WDW, but obviously they do well enough with the rate it sells out that they don’t need to do that. 🙂
The dates for the Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend are January 7 – January 10, 2016. Registration link is here.
At any rate, the Walt Disney World running events encompass a number of races and even combos of the races. Here are the different entries/races offered:
-
Walt Disney World® Marathon ($175)
-
Dopey Challenge – Run the 5K, 10K, half-marathon and full marathon for 48.6 miles ($550)
-
Runner’s World Challenge – The Dopey Challenge plus a lot of RW benefits like coaching ($1,100)
-
Goofy’s Challenge – Run the half-marathon and full marathon for 39.3 miles ($360)
-
Half Marathon – Sold Out
-
Walt Disney World® 10K – Sold Out
-
Walt Disney World® 5K – Sold Out
-
runDisney Kids Races ($15 and $30)
A very popular item is the Dopey Challenge and it is quite a challenge. Running 4 different races is a challenge but it is a great venue to do that at. The Goofy Challenge is also very popular and it has more open spaces at this time than the Dopey. Plus, it is a way to get in to the half marathon now that it is sold out.
The one that is almost full (9% in the last 14 hours) is the Dopey Challenge. If you have an interest in it, register now!
I did Dopey Challenge this past January, it is a very well run event, Disney knows how to organize such a large scale event, the most difficult part of running 4 days in a row is having to wake up early each day 🙂
When I have kids I hope to go to Disney World and do one or perhaps all 3 of these races! Sounds fun!
These sound so, so fun! What could be better than running + Disney?
Yesterday, WSJ ran an article, “How Much for That Bib”, which was on race bib transferring. Not permit by most organizations, except those that do, typically receive money from the replacement runner.
