I posted my 7 reasons to run a marathon in 2024 last week, like I do every year! This is my effort to encourage people to try something they may normally not think doable or maybe not seeing some of the great upsides to doing it!

However, beyond the physical commitment to train, the other thing that can stand in the way is the cost. Marathons have gone up and up in price over the years with some like the big ones in Chicago and New York costing upwards of $300 just for the marathon entry!

Even smaller ones cost over $100 and that can be a barrier for entry to many would-be marathoners. So, how about this – a $5 marathon! That is all the entry cost is for the Crossroads Marathon in Salina, KS. They have a generous benefactor that has donated to the race in their quest to get over 4,000 runners. They don’t want the cost to stand in the way so it only costs $5. You must sign up by March 31 to get this price!

They have a number of events for race weekend, which is November 2, 2024. They have a half marathon, marathon relay, half marathon relay, 5K run/walk, and half mile kids fun run. All of them are just $5 each! The funny thing is if you want to do it as a virtual race (you run the distance on your own wherever you are and upload your results), that will cost $15 – so it is much cheaper to run the actual event!

With that $5 entry fee, you will get the course support for whichever race you choose and a medal at the end! If you want a shirt, that will cost $20 for an adult size or $10 for youth sizes.

I signed up – I’m hopeful I can make the trip work but I had to do it at this price! I may do it with some others as well – maybe you will be there?

I’m kind of excited about it! I have never ran a marathon in Kansas so this would give me another state to my marathon list. Plus, it is cool to try out a place I may never have thought about visiting before but am now!
