Passenger Breaks the Wheels of His Carry-On to Avoid Carry-On Fees

Ever feel like breaking your carry-on to make sure it would fit and you don’t have to pay fees? This passenger did it!

I saw this on X and I couldn’t help but think that this guy is acting out what so many people have felt that have flown airlines like this. Check out the video before and we will break it down.

Breaking the Carry-On to Avoid Fees

This passenger was flying from Italy on Easyjet. According to AI translation, the German text reads “POV: Paid an extra fee on the outbound flight because carry-on isn’t always considered the same kind of carry-on. Motto for the return flight: If it doesn’t fit, we’ll make it fit!”

So, it would seem that he had paid for the baggage fee for the bag on the flight to Italy but decided he didn’t want to pay that if he could make the bag fit within the sizer. Why pay if he can make it fit – one way or another?

Well, “another” was the way it ended up going. You can see in the video that he ended up tearing off all 4 wheels to make it fit in the sizer. It looks like he was hoping they would let him slide with just two wheels (not sure what good that would have been for him!) before he finally had to remove all 4.

The fee at the gate for this bag would have been over $50 and airlines like Easyjet really have no wiggle room for their passengers – if it doesn’t fit, you are paying. This guy decided he would make it fit.

Based on how easy he was able to rip the wheels off, I’m guessing he didn’t have a very expensive bag but I am guessing it may have been around that $50 price (you can buy carry-on bags like this in Europe for around even $20).

Having flown my share of flights on Easyjet and Ryanair and everyone else who checks the carry-ons so closely, I can tell you I have seen quite a few people try to cram it to make it fit. This is the first time I saw this, though! Normally, I would travel with a small duffle and bring a strap to cinch it smaller if necessary. Never had a problem!
