Every few months, IHG (Intercontinental Hotels Group) runs a promotion called PointBreaks. This promo involves selected hotels all over the world throughout the IHG brands. The promo for these hotels is that they are available on points for only 5,000 points per night. That is a huge savings – some of these hotels go for at least 7 times that on a regular basis. These rooms at that rate are limited, so it is always a good thing to jump on it when you can.
Getting the points
Signing up for a credit card at this point (to lock in the good hotels) is not going to be too beneficial. However, these come around every few months, so you might as well think about getting an IHG credit card to earn major points to use for PointBreaks. To get the points to use now for this promo, you can transfer them over from Ultimate Rewards at a 1:1 (this is really the only time it is a good idea to transfer Ultimate Reward points to IHG). You can also use this method outlined here to purchase the points you need for one night for $35.

This list is good for travel booked between today (March 24) and May 31 and good for stays between the same dates. Here is the full list. With the spring marathon season coming on strong, this could be very helpful in allowing you to secure a great deal.
