It is normally $249 and there is now the DJI Osmo Pocket 2 that is out that has better performance for both video and stills so do take that into consideration.
I was able to try this camera out for a while after it was released and I have to say – it was pretty amazing! Not only does it pack a pretty decent camera sensor (larger than your smartphone’s sensor!) in it but it also gives you a gimbal for smooth video and an actual mini display to see what you are doing!
But, that is not all! It also has some cool tracking features it borrows from its big brothers that fly in the sky. It’s called Active Track and it does a nice job of tracking for sure! Plus, you can plug it into your smartphone and it gains several more features!
A camera like this is perfect for travel since you can use it to video all of your travel adventures while not making your viewers feel like throwing up when they watch it. It also shoots in 4K 60fps – for those that aren’t familiar with those numbers, it just means ultra high definition with 60 frames per second to give a silky movement to your video.
Anyway, enough about all of that! Just know that it is a pretty cool piece of travel tech since it is so tiny, it can fit even in your pocket (hence the name) but is quite the powerful little camera device. Yes, smartphones have improved greatly with camera tech and even how well they maintain smoothness. But, having a gimbal is a definite improvement and you can always connect it to your phone if you want the best of both worlds!
A Couple of Negatives
Just be aware of two negatives I had with it. Both are in relation to the tech and the size and are simply natural downsides. One is the display. It is nice to have there but it is tiny so don’t think you will have something really spacious for viewing what you are shooting! That is why it can connect to your smartphone.
The second is that, since it has a 3-axis gimbal built-in, it needs to be in its included case when you take it around. Gimbals can be sensitive, especially ones this small. So, while the camera itself is super tiny, the sheath/case does add a bit of bulk to it and you should just consider that as part of its size when you are going around with it.
