Using Membership Rewards at Hyatt
Written by Charlie

With downtime coming this week to Hyatt’s Gold Passport program, it is time to book your Hyatt stays now!

This past week, Hyatt announced on Flyertalk a scheduled system maintenance that will cover 4 days this coming week – December 14 – 18. That means that today and tomorrow are your last chances to book stays that involve points before this downtime!

Here is the information that Hyatt provided on Flyertalk:

We know how important it is to have up-to-date Hyatt Gold Passport account information. So, we wanted to let our members know that from December 15 to December 18, 2015 Hyatt Gold Passport will be undergoing system maintenance and account information will not be accessible during this time.

What members are able to do:
• Earn points and stay/night credit toward tier status for all eligible stays
• Earn points for eligible dining and spa services
• Book paid reservations

What members are unable to do:
• Cannot access your account information, including point balance and promotional awards, either online or by calling a Global Contact Center
• Cannot redeem new promotional awards or points for free nights, room upgrades, or miles
• Cannot purchase or combine points

Any account activity accrued after December 12, 2015 will not be reflected on member’s account until the week of December 28, 2015. Members can be assured that any points earned during this time will be credited to their account. We appreciate your patience during this time.

We don’t want you to miss out, so if you’re planning an upcoming trip using your points or awards, start exploring and book before December 15, 2015. Otherwise, you’ll have full access to your account beginning December 19, 2015.

Thank you for your patience during this time, and we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience.

Breaking It Down

So, you will still be able to book paid stays but any stays involving your points in the Hyatt Gold Passport program need to be booked before December 15. You can go ahead and book those stays now and tomorrow but if you need to transfer the points, you can do that from Chase until December 15 as well. They transfer instantly so you have no problem with that before December 15.

The other point of note is that account activity from December 12 will not appear until the week of December 28, which means it would appear at the earliest a week from tomorrow. If you are noticing no new point activity the last day or two that is why.

If you are missing points from stays before December 12 and need those points to book awards, call right now to get them fixed. That happened with me. The last 3 stays never had my Diamond amenity points post so I called today to get them updated. Since the stays were prior to December 12, they had no problem getting them added.

One other possibility would be if you have a stay within this 4 day period booked with points and you find you need to cancel it. A Hyatt representative told me that this would be done on a case-by-case basis if you have a Gold Passport-involved stay between December 14 – 18.

Summary

Hopefully this will take less than 4 days and hopefully it will be fine when it comes back online! It would be disappointing to have problems carry out through the end of the year, especially when people are trying to finish up their qualification for status over the next couple of years. That includes me – my final qualifying stay is December 31 so I hope everything goes well!

At least they are upfront with all of this and I am thankful that there representatives have always been helpful. If you need help, call or tweet them today or tomorrow to book your stay if it involves points in any way. If it is pure cash stays, you will be just fine.
