A Recent SPG Auction That Had Great Value

A SPG auction ended yesterday (I would have posted it but it was only 10 minutes before closing when I remembered) that really had some great value tied to it.

It was for a culinary experience on Mallorca starting next week. This is what the auction included:

• Two (2) nights for two (2) people in a Junior Suite at The St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort. Two (2) consecutive nights can be booked between 16 November 2017 and 26 November 2017 from Tuesday to Saturday
• Access for two (2) to a fishing trip on a trawler
• Free access for two (2) to the Arabella Spa
• Two (2) Traditional Chinese Medicine consultations and treatment provided by Dr. Lu Zhang
• Full breakfast buffet for two (2) in Restaurant Aqua
• Tour for two (2) of Mallorcan markets organized by MIMO

To be honest, many of the aspects of the auction were not eye-catching for me. But, the big one was the 2 nights in a Junior Suite at the St. Regis Mardavall Mallorca Resort.

That particular St. Regis goes for 30,000 points per night for a base room – that is 60,000 points for 2 nights. This auction gave the winner that plus upgraded them to a Junior Suite.

For two random nights during the times listed, the cost came to almost $1,100 for those nights and breakfast. Right away, that is 3.5 cents per Starpoint. That does not include the other experiences tied to the overal auction.

I certainly am not expert on the prices of the other things but I think it is very fair to say that the whole auction value would come to a little over 4 cents per Starpoint.

By itself, that is not a huge value, but being able to get 2 nights in a suite at a Category 7 property for 15,000 points per night is a great deal! Sure, November is not the great season for Mallorca but if you wanted to stay at a nice resort and enjoy the island, it would definitely have worked.

What You Should Look For

Of course, auctions like these are not for everyone and that is one of the reasons these go for lower prices. This auction is for travel in the next two weeks. Most people are not going to bid for such an auction and leave from the US just for the sake of this auction.

But, many of us love to let deals direct us in our travels. This is one of those deals that would have been the beginning of a nice trip over the Thanksgiving holiday.

After a few days in Mallorca, you could head to the mainland and maybe even take in another SPG auction that has not ended yet and also would be a great deal – in Athens, Greece. 🙂
