Welcome back to Junk Mail Saturday! This is where I will review some of the junk mail (both postal and e-mail) that was received through the week. We call it “junk mail” but many times there are some golden nuggets in there (more often than not, they are targeted to specific individuals) so hopefully this will help you as we look at what the offers are. I have seen some very funny ones and some great ones. Feel free to send me yours to be included as well!
Junk Mail Saturday
I know it has been a while since I have posted one of these but it is because I haven’t received any pieces of “junk” mail in a while! I used to get them all the time and then after I started writing about them, they stopped showing up! Maybe I found the cure to getting junk mail, just write about it. 🙂
American Express Business Platinum
The Offer: I was told about this offer from a friend so I do not have the actual offer in front of me. However, the offer, that was received in the mailbox, is to receive 100,000 Membership Reward points after spending $5,000 in 3 months.
The Fine Print: Again, I do not have this offer in front of me, but I know it does have the usual fine print for a card like this – in order to be eligible for the offer, you must not have had the Amex Business Gold, Platinum, or Green card in the past 12 months (sometimes the terms vary and it says you must not have held the Gold or Green card – Business Version – in the last 90 days).
The Summary: This is a fantastic offer! I wish I had been targeted for this! This card is an excellent card and this offer is tremendous. My affiliate offer is only 25,000 Membership Reward points, so if you receive this offer, I would definitely jump on this instead.
The Verdict: Excellent! Watch your mailbox!
Platinum Visa Card
The Offer: Pre-approved for a starting credit line up to $1,500. No enrollment fee and no over limit fees. Online monthly credit score included.
The Fine Print: $75 fee for the first year and $99 every year thereafter, billed monthly at $8.25.
The Summary: This is one of those true junk mail offers. This offer would be good for someone looking to build credit and credit history, but it is a terrible offer for someone with great credit (like I have). The only thing I like about this card is that it bills the annual fee monthly as a portion of the annual amount. That is something I wish other cards would do (for those cards I want to keep, the other ones – nope!). To think I just got approved on 4 new cards with bonuses totaling over $1,500 in value, this card heads right for the trash!
The Verdict: Poor
