I just wrote about the new Thompson Hotel properties that joined the Hyatt family. Well, I wanted to do a separate post to call your attention to what I think is the most exciting part of the news. There is now a hotel in Manhattan bookable with a Hyatt free night certificate – and in Chicago, too!
Two Hotels in Manhattan and Chicago Bookable with Hyatt Free Night Certificates
What Hyatt Free Night Certificates?
Hyatt has free night certificates that are good for a single free night (any night) at a Category 1 – 4 property. Here are ways you can earn a Hyatt free night certificate:
- Staying 30 nights in a year at Hyatt properties
- Staying in 5 different Hyatt brands
- Staying in another 5 different Hyatt brands
- An anniversary night on both the regular Hyatt credit card and the World of Hyatt card
- By spending $15,000 in a year on the World of Hyatt card
As you can see, it is very easy to pick up these free night certificates! If you are an Explorist elite member (requires 30 nights in a year), you could earn as many as 5 (the brand certificates are one-time certificates and this assumes you have the World of Hyatt card and are spending $15,000 in a year). At the least, an Explorist member with a Hyatt card would receive 2 free nights each year.
New York City can be a very expensive place for hotels, both in cash costs and in the actual cost in points. Hyatt has a number of Category 6 and 7 properties scattered around Manhattan but they do not have a Category 4 property. Until now!
The New York City property is called Gild Hall and is located in lower Manhattan, in the financial district. Check random dates next month, this property costs over $340 per night for the week nights but can be booked using 15,000 Hyatt points or a Hyatt free night certificate!
The Chicago property is called the Thompson Chicago. On the same random date in April, it costs $220 or 15,000 points (or, the Hyatt free night certificate).
While there have been free night certificate options in Chicago, I am very excited about the addition of two more such properties in these major cities – especially New York City! While I do not anticipate the Gild Hall being on the same level as some of the other Hyatt properties, I would guess that it is above any Hyatt Place and it is in New York City so that is a huge break!

[…] Categories and Promotions. Yeah, just eight properties but more are coming…And nice to have Two Hotels in Manhattan and Chicago Are Bookable with Hyatt Free Night Certificates […]
Stayed here Friday. Second night in the Hyatt portfolio. Great use of points. Rate would’ve been $400 after taxes/resort fee. Paid just 15,000 Hyatt Points. What’s more? Was upgraded to the Thompson Suite because I’m Hyatt Explorist. Front desk staff is great! (You get Prosecco at check in, and they gave us a bottle in our room because we were celebrating). The suite had a room rate for the night of $2,100. Not bad for 15,000 Hyatt points (or a certificate).
