American Express released their updated Delta card offers today. They are very similar to the older offers (as far as award miles earned) but they have increased spending requirements and statement credits! The offers are not such that you need to jump on these now if you weren’t considering one of them anyway, but if you were interested in picking up a American Express Delta card, these are the current offers available!

Gold Delta Skymiles American Express Card

The former offer was for 30,000 Skymiles after spending $500 in the first 3 months. The current offer has kept the same amount of miles, raised the spending to $1,000 in 3 months, and offers a $50 statement credit (after the first Delta purchase in the first 3 months). Here are the details about the card:

  • Earn 30K bonus miles after you make $1K in purchases on your new Card within your first 3 months.
  • Earn a $50 statement credit after you make a Delta purchase with your new Card within your first 3 months.
  • Earn As You Spend: Get 2X miles on Delta purchases and 1X miles for all other eligible dollars spent.
  • Check your first bag free on every Delta flight – that’s a savings of up to $200 per round trip for a family of four.
  • Premium Travel Perks: Settle in sooner with Priority Boarding.
  • $0 introductory annual fee for the first year, then $95.
  • Terms and Restrictions Apply.

This is a good card from American Express that will give you an easy 30,000 Skymiles. These can be used for and towards many different kinds of award tickets or they can be used for the Pay-with-miles program that allows you to redeem your miles a 1 cent each towards qualifying Delta tickets. In addition, you can also use these miles to secure rental cars at cheaper rates than normal venues (in many cases). To read about how to find those rental deals, check this post.

Platinum Delta Skymiles American Express Card

Application Link – Platinum Delta Skymiles American Express Card – 5,000 MQMs and 35,000 Skymiles

This is the middle American Express Delta card and offers Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQMs) as part of the bonus offer. Bonus Offer: Receive 5,000 MQMs and 35,000 Skymiles after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months.

In addition, it also gives the card holder a free (except for taxes and fees) domestic companion ticket each year. This benefit alone can make the $150 annual fee worth it. The card also awards 10,000 MQMs for every $25,000 of spending in a calendar year (up to 20,000 MQMs). This new offer also gives a statement credit – this time $100 – after the first Delta purchase in the first 3 months.

Should You Apply Right Now?

The new offer of a statement credit is a nice offer but it is one that would make me hold off on applying for this card until I had plans to fly with Delta. The statement credit requires that the card holder makes a purchase with Delta in the first 3 months. This purchase can be a ticket purchase, bag charges, Delta fees, etc. So, if you have some Delta travel coming up, go ahead and apply for one of these. The bag fee being waived is a nice touch and one that can save you some money on your next trip. The miles and statement credits are nice incentives as well.
