Marriott has issued a cancellation fee waiver for certain regions of the world due to the coronavirus. Check to see if you will be able to get your fee waived, if you need to cancel travel.

While Hyatt had already made a very generous fee waiver (and elite status extension) for those affected by the Coronavirus, Marriott had been quite silent on that – until now. So, here is Marriott’s cancellation waiver due to the coronavirus.

Here is the very short statement from Marriott about the cancellation policy for those places most affected by the coronavirus (bolding mine):

The wellbeing of our guests and associates is of paramount importance. We are waiving cancellation fees for hotel stays through March 31, 2020 for guests traveling to or from the following locations:
  • Asia Pacific: Mainland China, Hong Kong SAR, Macau SAR, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea
  • Europe: Italy

Pretty simple – if you are set to travel from or to any of the above locations, you can get your cancellation fee waived should you want to cancel your hotel stay. For now, this only applies for stays through March 31.

I am glad that they included all of Italy in the waiver instead of just the regions with the current outbreak.

As a short aside for observation, it is strange but the statement is on a totally different web home than the normal Marriott pages. Not sure why they chose to do this…
