Twice each year, Southwest runs a big $49 and up sale. This is always the best time to buy (or re-buy if your fare has dropped) tickets with Southwest. These tickets go fast so check it out now!
The Huge Southwest $49 and Up Sale is Here!
Link: Huge Southwest $49 and Up Sale
For just 3 days, this is not your normal, weekly Southwest sale. This one starts at $49 for tons of routes across the country that typically cost quite a bit more. One such example is from my home airport of ROC to BWI. This is normally $79 or even $109 in other sales but is available for just $49 like so many other city pairs with this sale.
Huge Southwest Sale Details:
- Purchase from October 1 through October 3, 2019, 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.
- Continental U.S. travel valid November 13, 2019, through February 12, 2020.
- Interisland Hawaii travel valid December 4 through December 18, 2019, and January 2 through February 12, 2020.
- Travel to/from San Juan, Puerto Rico valid November 13 through December 5, 2019, and January 13 through March 5, 2020.
- International travel valid November 13 through December 11, 2019, and January 7 through March 5, 2020.
- Continental U.S. travel blacked out November 22-December 3, 2019 & December 19, 2019-January 5, 2020
As you can see, this sale stretches into early 2020 so it is a great time to lock down those sunny day vacations or that ski destination now as well. I am seeing some big price drops on many city pairs I normally monitor so this is definitely a good time to buy.
And, like always, even if the price drops later, you can always rebook for free and get your point difference back or the cash back in the form of a credit!
Hawaii!
If you want to fly around Hawaii, grab those tickets for just $29 one way! Not only that, but like always, you can get two free bags per person and your companion pass works – just so you can save that extra $24. 🙂
Check Your Reservations to Save Money/Points!
One of the great benefits with these sales is to check your existing Southwest reservation and see if the fare is any cheaper right now. This is very common because many people will book as far out as they can when the schedule opens to ensure they have the flight. Then, with Southwest’s generous cancellation/change policy, you can make changes to the reservation and always make sure you are booked at the lowest price.
Cancellation and Change Policy
If you have already booked your tickets in the past, you can still take advantage of the sale. Southwest has the best cancellation/rebooking policy of the US airlines. Basically, as long as you cancel by 10 minutes before the flight, you get the points back in your account for free and with no penalty. That means you are free to make any changes you want without any problems or loss of points or cash!
Check Your Already-Booked Reservations For Price Difference
So, now is the time to search for your tickets within this sale and see if you have a better price available now than when you had booked it. If the price has dropped, you simply select to change the flight and look at the same dates and flights again. Once you go through and confirm, you will receive a refund of the difference in miles and the cash for the taxes will be transferred for the new ticket.
In 1 Minute, You Can Have Your Points Back!
The whole process takes less than 60 seconds and you could save a lot of money or points! If you had booked your ticket in the past using cash, you will receive a refund in the form of a credit that is usable for 1 year from the time you originally booked the ticket. If you booked it with points, you will receive the points back in your account for the difference.
