Discounted Delta Award Tickets

Through November 2, Delta is offering a discount on award tickets that can save you as much as 10,000 miles. There was this offer not long ago but it was targeted to elites and cardholders. Now, it is open and available to everyone.

Discounted Delta Award Tickets

This offer works on both the saver level and standard level (though, most people will not be booking at the standard level!) and does have a few restrictions, but not many. For domestic tickets, you will be able to redeem for only 21,000 miles (as opposed to the normal 25,000 miles). To get the full 10,000 miles, you will need to redeem for travel to Southern South America. Full details can be found here

Discounted Delta

Economy, domestic ticket pricing 4,000 fewer miles than normal

Details

  • Must book by November 2
  • For travel between December 3 and February 15
  • No minimum stay (except for Brazil, Argentina, and Chile which require a 7 day minimum)
  • Blackout dates are December 19 – 24, December 26 – January 5, January 16 and 19th

The blackout dates are not a huge deal because it is doubtful that you would find an award ticket at the saver level during those days anyway. Still they take out 14% of the days during the promo period so consider that in your planning.

Should You Do This?

There is no question that it is always nicer to get a break on miles required than not at all, but I do not think that a mere 4,000 miles (or 16%) is enough to go all out and book tickets just because. Whether you choose to do so is obviously up to you, but I would definitely take advantage of this if you have travel coming up anyway and you are trying to determine which airline to book on.

It would take about 6 of these tickets to actually save enough in miles to book another domestic ticket, but that is actually not all that bad. If you are taking a family trip around the holidays, it will be a nice way to get another ticket for free down the road.
