The airline shopping portals have been pretty busy in the last several months with many tiered bonus promos being advertised. The latest ones are here again and it is a great way to earn more miles on top of the miles you will already earn by shopping through the airline shopping portals.

Earn 2,000 Bonus Miles With New Shopping Promos
United Airlines

As usual, it is a tiered bonus and here is how it breaks down:
- Spend $150 and earn 300 bonus miles
- Spend $350 and earn 1,000 bonus miles
- Expires 4/14/2017
This bonus is on top of the earnings you already get at any retailer through the United shopping portal. For example, if you were to shop at a retailer that is paying out 6 miles per dollar and you spent $350, you would earn 2,100 miles from the regular portal earning and an additional 1,000 from this bonus for a total of 3,100 miles.
If you were to spend exactly $150, it would be like earning an extra 2 miles per dollar. If you spent exactly $350, it would be like earning an extra 2.8 miles per dollar.
Alaska Airlines

And, here is the tiered payout bonus for the Alaska shopping portal:
- Spend $150 and earn 300 bonus miles
- Spend $350 and earn 1,000 bonus miles
- Expires 4/12/2017
So, exactly the same as the United offer except it expires 2 days earlier. Of course, it all depends on which airline currency you are trying to collect more of but I would personally put Alaska miles at a higher value than United given their breadth of partnerships and award potential. But, this is certainly not a one-or-the-other! You could do the spending with both but you would have to hit $1,000 on each to max it out!
Stack with Amex
If you have a Membership Reward earning card, check this post from yesterday and your Amex account to see if you can get even more bonus points! Amex is offering an additional point at a whole bunch of online retailers and if you use that card and shop through the portals above, you will get extra Membership Reward points and extra miles! Win-win!
Caution?
I will say this – portal bonuses are an awesome thing but you need to make sure that this is spending you would do anyway or you need to do at some point. I realize most of you know this but it can be easy to get caught up in “free” bonus miles and checking your account balance as it grows towards your next trip. Just consider this – if you really need the extra 1,000 miles for either airline, you could buy them for $35 without any sale going on. If you are overspending to reach this bonus or paying more for something because it is from an online retailer, just make sure that it is not more than the $35 you would pay for those miles otherwise! 🙂
