Amex and SPG and back with another one – a spending bonus on SPG cards. I am sure this is far from the last thing we will see from Amex as they try to get as much spending on their SPG cards as possible before any changes may occur. Unfortunately, it is targeted. Read the details here.

A Double Spending Bonus on SPG Cards – Up to 10,000 Bonus Starpoints

There are two separate offers, one for consumer cards and one for business cards. They are almost both the same except the business card offer gives more potential for earnings. Here they are.

Consumer Spending Bonus on SPG Card

• Spending starts after enrollment
• Spending must be done between enrollment and 12/31/2016
• If you spend $5,000, you will get a bonus of 5,000 Starpoints for a total of 10,000 Starpoints

Business Spending Bonus on SPG Card

• Spending starts after enrollment
• Spending must be done between enrollment and 12/15/2016
• If you spend $5,000, you will get a bonus of 5,000 Starpoints for a total of 10,000 Starpoints
• If you spend an additional $5,000, you will get another bonus of 5,000 Starpoints
• Get a total of 20,000 Starpoints for $10,000 in spending

Analysis

This is a great way to get an easy 2 Starpoints per dollar (if you hit the thresholds) on your spending over the next few months. Since you can transfer Starpoints to Marriott at a 1:3 ratio, this would allow you to spend $10,000 on the SPG business card and get a total of 60,000 Marriott points after transferring!

If you get targeted, I would absolutely try for it since these points are most valuable right now. I was targeted for the business but not the consumer.
