How to Sign-Up for the 2020 NYC Marathon

As they have done for years, the NYC Marathon works on a lottery system. The 50th NYC Marathon drawing is open from January 30, 2020 until February 13, 2020. The drawing will take place February 26, 2020.

Like in other years, there are some ways to get a guaranteed entry but it will either involve raising a lot of money for charity or having run many NYC Marathons before. There are other ways that are no longer open for entry (running a qualifying time that is much faster than the Boston Marathon or completing a certain number of other races and volunteering last year).

How Much Does the 2020 NYC Marathon Cost?

Running the NYC marathon is not a cheap proposition – it is New York, after all! The cost will vary based on whether you have a  New York Road Runner’s member and whether you are a non-US resident. Here are the costs for the 2020 NYC Marathon:

  • $255 for US Residents that are NYRR members
  • $295 for US Residents that are not NYRR members
  • $358 for Non-US Residents

Here is what is included in your entry fee (which will not be charged unless you are accepted):

  • Entry to the 2020 TCS New York City Marathon, including fluid/fueling stations, medical support, entertainment, bag-check handling, and security
  • Official New Balance technical shirt
  • Official transportation to the start from Midtown Manhattan, Lower Manhattan, or the Meadowlands Sports Complex (New Jersey)
  • Start area, including breakfast and entertainment
  • Finisher materials: medal, food, beverages, and United Airlines/Foot Locker Heatsheet™

The good thing is that you can easily get your travel costs down to an absolute minimum with the right credit cards. I will cover those in another post very soon to help you get to NYC and save that money for other races!

Good luck in the 2020 NYC Marathon drawing!
