Dubai Marathon Trip

I am getting ready to leave for my Dubai Marathon trip. I get many requests from people wanting to know what my opinions are regarding redeeming their miles for various trips. I thought it would be good of me to fly a few different airlines and different cabins/aircraft to give a more informed opinion for those who are curious – isn’t that nice of me? 🙂 I understand that many of you may be working hard to save and earn points (maybe for a few years) to take a once-in-a-lifetime trip somewhere. I know there is no “bad” business or first class cabins (when compared to economy) but I also know that you want to make the most of your trip. I know my opinion may not match what you are interested in, but I do want to write about some of these things from the perspective of a runner who has traveled to many races and highlight some things that may make your different race trip experiences brighter.

It just so happened that the Dubai Marathon date synced up with the days that were going to work for me so I thought I would make it a full-featured review. This one will have many parts to review each segment of the trip (and how you can earn and redeem miles and points for the same thing). I will be on the ground in 7 countries (not counting the US) from Tuesday – Friday and flying on 8 different aircraft with 5 different airlines between Tuesday and Saturday – quite the whirlwind! The trip begins with me driving to JFK – what?! – tonight. I don’t normally do that but have some good reasons that I will write about in the report. I promise I will get the report out within a decent timeframe. I want to separate it because there are many different aspects to cover and it would be way too much to squeeze into one post.

Anyway, that is my Dubai Marathon trip – should be exciting! The marathon itself should be quite exciting given the amount of talent that will be present. Dubai craves the marathon world record to be set in their race so they have an enormous financial incentive to do it – $1 million! It would be really neat to run in race that the record is set in. Look for the various trip reports to start coming – I guarantee you will find some of these airline cabins to entice even the most hesitant of flyers to take a trip somewhere!
