Presidents do a lot of travel during their years in office. While many presidents have traveled internationally to some degree before taking office, the bulk of their international travel comes during their presidency. Fortunately, with the advent of Air Force One, these trips do not take quite as long as they used to. The longest international travel trip by a president was before the airplane and was done by Woodrow Wilson with his seven month trip to Europe after World War I!
Presidents Bush and Clinton both visited 74 countries each during their terms. President Obama is currently at 45 countries during his presidency – 34 in the first term and 11 so far into his second. Here is the list of countries he has visited as president:
- Afghanistan
- Australia
- Belgium
- Brazil
- Cambodia
- Canada
- Chile
- China
- Columbia
- Costa Rica
- Czech Republic
- Denmark
- Egypt
- El Salvador
- France
- Germany
- Ghana
- India
- Indonesia
- Iraq
- Ireland
- Israel
- Italy
- Japan
- Jordan
- Malaysia
- Mexico
- Myanmar
- Netherlands
- Norway
- Philippines
- Poland
- Portugal
- Russia
- Saudi Arabia
- Senegal
- Singapore
- South Africa
- South Korea
- Sweden
- Tanzania
- Thailand
- Trinidad and Tobago
- Turkey
- United Kingdom
He has visited France and Mexico the most – 5 times each. Afghanistan and South Korea are in second with 4 visits each.
So, looking at the list of countries visited by the President, how many of those countries have you visited? Of the countries listed above, I have visited 19. Since 2008, have you visited more countries than the President? I know I have not!
*Colombia [oops :)]
Thanks 🙂
