American Airlines has done a great job of making their miles less valuable over the last couple of years. But, that does not mean that there is still not value with them! From things like partner awards to their own awards to some regions, American Airline miles can still be used for great value. But, you just might need a lot more than you used to.
Two Great American Airlines Credit Card Offers
Thankfully, there are 2 great American Airline credit card offers to help you out with that! They are both for the same card, which means you can only jump on one, but either one will present you with some significant value.
Remember, if you have had a Citi AA personal card opened or closed in the last 24 months, you are not eligible for either one of these offers.
Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard – Version 1

This one offers 60,000 AA miles after meeting the $3,000 spending requirement in 3 months. While this card has seen higher, this is the best offer as of right now.
-
NEW: Earn 2 miles for every $1 spent at restaurants, gas stations, and at American Airlines
-
1st checked bag free on domestic American Airline flights
- Earn a $100 American Airlines Flight Discount after you spend $20,000 or more in purchases during your cardmembership year and renew your card
- Save 25% on inflight food and beverage purchases on American Airlines flights when you use your card
- Earn 1 mile for every $1 spent on other purchases
- Annual fee – $99 (waived the first year)
60,000 American Airline miles is a enough to give you a business class ticket to Europe from the US. Or, it can give you a roundtrip ticket in economy to Europe (with even a little left over during off-peak times).
Citi/AAdvantage Platinum Select World Elite Mastercard – Version 2

This one offers 50,000 AA miles after meeting the $2,500 spending requirement in 3 months but it also gives a $200 statement credit on eligible AA purchases in the first 12 months of the card’s opening!

Here is what the statement credit covers and does not cover:
- Eligible American Airlines purchases are items billed by American Airlines as merchant of record booked through American Airlines channels (AA.com, American Airlines reservations, and American Airlines airport and city ticket counters).
- Products or services that do not qualify are car rentals and hotel reservations (except taxes and charges paid when redeeming miles for car/hotel), purchase of elite status boost or renewal and AA CargoSM products and services
This is a great deal for anyone that is booking tickets with AA, which you will be doing if you have miles with them! This will cover the taxes paid on award tickets as well so this is like getting a free $200 for AA travel. You will give up 10,000 miles in exchange for getting that $200 but I think that is a perfectly fair trade – especially since you can buy AA miles during sales for less than 2 cents per mile.
Which AA Citi Card Offer?
Given the lower spending requirement on version 2 ($500 less required) and the $200 in AA statement credits, I would say that Version 2 is the better offer. If you have not opened or closed a Citi AA personal card in the last 24 months, definitely give these offers a look.
Of course, don’t forget about the Barclays AA Aviator Red offer with 50,000 miles after the first purchase and annual fee.
