Google has released their Google Trends for 2019 and it shows what people have searched for the most in various categories. In the US, we get a glimpse of a lot more categories than global searches and one of those categories is “Trip to…” searches. Here are the places that made the top 10 list.
Top 10 Trip Destinations by Google Searches
Here are the top 10 trip destinations by Google searches in 2019:
Trip to…
- Maldives
- Japan
- Bora Bora
- Las Vegas
- Mexico
- Alaska
- New Orleans
- California
- New York
- Costa Rica
No surprise that two of the top three are the exotic locations of the Maldives and Bora Bora! Also no surprise that those two destinations are some of the aspirational miles and points destinations, thanks to the otherwise sky high prices of living it up in those places!
These are for US searches so I am a bit surprised that so many of the top 10 searches were US cities. Not as many people were searching out some places like London, Paris, Sydney, Dubai, and others? I can tell you that if people had miles at hand, places like New Zealand would have been higher on the list (since it was available with AA miles for just 10,000 miles roundtrip!). Even without points, 2019 had some of the best, consistent prices to European cities from the US – try sub-$350 roundtrip, even at great times!
Of course, the US cities/states on that list are well deserved as well! New York is fantastic (a little biased!) and Alaska, California, New Orleans, and Las Vegas all have a lot to offer travelers as well! Even Las Vegas can be so much more than just casinos and hotels!
Japan is not really a surprise, thanks to how fantastic of a destination it is and that the Olympics are there next year!
I wish I could see the Google searches for those of us who travel with miles and points! Chances are it would have even more “exotic” locations on it!
Charlie, once upon a time I read a study showing that people get more pleasure out of planning a vacation than taking a vacation.
That must be the explanation for the Maldives coming out on top. For sure the Maldives is not the most _visited_ place on the list.
