Millions of people are quarantined due to the coronavirus outbreak and this means that you are stuck in your house for days on end. This can get pretty dull for sure and can be made worse by the inability to really get out and move your legs and get the blood flowing like most people do in their daily walks around work, exercise, and more.
One Runner Ran 50K in His Living Room Around Tables
This one runner by the name of Pan Shancu did not let the quarantine keep him down, though! He set up a homemade “track” by putting two tables together and then ran 6,250 laps around that area. Yes, 6,250 laps. This equates to a total of 50km (31 miles) by his app measuring the workout and he did it in a very respectable 4 hours and 48 minutes (a 9 minute and 17 second pace). Talk about a dizzying experience!
That’s right – not a treadmill but a homemade course that was 8 meters around. That is a lot of turns and without the benefit of the pull of the treadmill belt!
When I hear of stories like this, I like to share them to help us all get over our various excuses for not getting exercise. Many times, we may be deterred from our outdoor activity by rain or snow but think about this guy the next time you think you cannot do anything!
According to his post on Weibo where he uploaded photos of this crazy endeavor (and written about in the Guardian) – “I have not been outside for many days, today I cannot bear sitting down any more! One lap is about 8m – I ran 50km, did it in 4:48:44, sweated all over, feels great!”
Wow, just wow! I have run a few miles in the house before when the weather was really bad and I did not have a treadmill but that was nothing like this! Even running on the treadmill (or, dreadmill to the many runners who view it as a necessary evil) would be highly preferred to this 8 meter running route!
Thanks to George from TBB for sharing this
I’m more traumatized by him wearing shoes in the house LOL
Haha! For real!
