The other day, I wrote a post about a crazy run I was going to do and today is the day! By the time this post is published, I will already be about 2.5 hours into this run so catch up with the details here!
Running 1,200+ Laps for Masks and More – in the Backyard
update at 10:20 NYC time – I finished in just under 5 hours and went a little extra due to some donations at the end. Thanks!
Please consider still donating through the link below!
What Is This?
Due to quarantines in place around me, I cannot do the kind of long runs I would like to do. So, I am doing this in my backyard around a circle-ish shape that is 110 feet in circumference.
To run a marathon (26.2 miles), I will need to run about 1,250 laps. Yeah, crazy! My goal is to run at least that far!
- Start time: 12:00PM (7 hours ahead of NYC time as this is in Europe)
- Distance: at least 26.2 miles
- Laps: At least 1,250
Why Do This?
I was registered for the Jerusalem Marathon last month. It was canceled. I normally do a birthday run (which was March 26) where I run at least 20 miles but sometimes up to 31 miles. Do to area lockdowns and quarantine measures, I cannot run that far. So, I was motivated by runners like this one and one that ran a marathon on his 7 meter balcony to also do a short course marathon – for the challenge.
But, doing something crazy like this is not enough. I wanted it to have some kind of meaning as well. So, I searched out for an organization that is helping our frontline medical staff get the personal protection equipment they need. The #Bstrong charity run by Bethenny Frankel seemed to fit that bill. She and her team are doing some great work to help our medical people.
What Can You Do?
So, go and donate to #Bstrong to help in this effort! I get nothing from this but the joy of knowing that this may have inspired some people to give to this cause. After you do that, share it here in the comments or on Twitter/Facebook/Instagram to let me know and keep pushing me around those laps!
If you want, you can let me know about a donation to another group that may be helping out during all this as well! I would love to hear from you! The hashtag will be #quarantinemarathonplus
How do you keep track of the laps?
Counting as I go. 🙂 it helps keep me focused and I actually haven’t even started listening to anything yet! 20 miles down!
