TSA has just added 9 new airlines to the TSA Precheck program. This brings the list of TSA Precheck airlines to 65 total and you can see them all here. But, will you get “real” TSA Precheck at your airport?

TSA has been pretty good about adding new airlines to their TSA Precheck list. Why wouldn’t they since this program is a great one for them, in terms of revenue? 🙂 It is also a hugely popular program with flyers so these new airlines may help some of you out on your next trip!

New TSA Precheck Airlines Bring the Total to 65 Airlines

TSA announced yesterday that they have added 9 new airlines to their list of airlines cleared for the TSA Precheck program. While this is great news, it will still depend on whether your departure terminal is setup for Precheck as to whether or not you really get the TSA Precheck treatment.

But, Is it “Real” TSA Precheck?

There are 3 ways that TSA Precheck customers are treated at TSA checkpoints for cleared airlines. The best way is full TSA Precheck clearance where you don’t have to take off your jacket, shoes, belt and you don’t have to take anything out of your bag. This lets you go through the metal detector.

The next level, or Precheck-lite (not that TSA refers to it that way!), is to go through a line that does not separate for Precheck but does give a card to allow you to go through a metal detector. For this line, you still need to take things out of your bag as well as take jacket and belt off.

The last and worst level is that you get no special Precheck treatment – you go through the regular TSA security line. This happens in some terminals that do not have Precheck facilities but an airline that does work with Precheck (like has been the case in the past at JFK Terminal 1 and IAH).
