While this is another Tuesday Southwest sale, it is actually a bit better than the regular Southwest sales. This is because it is the first Southwest sale that has pushed past early February and given us cheaper fares in March!
This can be great for anyone trying to plan winter getaways – either to warmer places or to colder places for skiing and other snowy enjoyments. With tickets starting at $42 for the cheapest city pair (Las Vegas – Long Beach, CA), get ready to book or to rebook travel you already have!

Here are the details of this latest Southwest sale:
- Book from September 4 through September 20, 2018, 11:59 p.m. in the respective time zone of the originating city.
- Domestic travel valid September 18, 2018, through March 6, 2019.
- Domestic travel blacked out November 20-21, November 24-26, December 21-23, December 26-27, December 29-30, 2018; January 1-2, 2019
You can pretty much identify the holiday travel season from the blacked out date periods. But, after January 2, there are no more nationwide black outs which mean those are definitely some times to check for nice, cheap winter travel!
Of course, not every city pair will be $42 (some readers last time assumed that “starting from” meant that the whole network was on sale!) but there are some good prices for city pairs around the US. Some of these city pairs are not ones that even show on the sale page so make sure you look around.
For example, you can fly Pittsburgh to Ft. Lauderdale for as low as $69 – $16 cheaper than American Airlines. This pair is important if you wanted to hit Miami or if you have a cruise out of Ft. Lauderdale. Even though it is “just” $16 cheaper than AA, if you are going cruising, you will be saving a lot more with Southwest having free bags!
Also, Las Vegas gets some cheap attention from all over the southwest with prices at $49 for many cities. Wintertime is very popular in Vegas for conventions and conferences and it is certain to be much warmer there than some other places in the country! So, you may want to check out those tickets as well.
Book With Southwest Points For Good Value
With point prices starting from only 1,300+ for the cheapest city pair, you can get a great value in your points. The cheapest tickets can give you a point value of over cents per point – very good for Southwest! So, while you check out the cash prices, don’t forget to look at point costs as well.
By booking the cheapest tickets, you can get some insane value out the best Southwest card offers! See how you could get over $1,300 in value from a single Southwest card offer!
Don’t forget to check your current reservations, thanks to the friendly Southwest cancellation and change policy!
Check Your Already-Booked Reservations For Price Difference
So, now is the time to search for your tickets within this sale and see if you have a better price available now than when you had booked it. If the price has dropped, you simply select to change the flight and look at the same dates and flights again. Once you go through and confirm, you will receive a refund of the difference in miles and the cash for the taxes will be transferred for the new ticket.
In 1 Minute, You Can Have Your Points Back!
The whole process takes less than 60 seconds and you could save a lot of money or points! If you had booked your ticket in the past using cash, you will receive a refund in the form of a credit that is usable for 1 year from the time you originally booked the ticket. If you booked it with points, you will receive the points back in your account for the difference.
