There is no question that hotels are leaning more on the experience side of travel than they ever have before. They realize that this is a nice thing to offer their members without just supplying a hotel concierge to handle this part of travel for them.
Hyatt Announces Their New Travel Experiences As Part of World of Hyatt
Link: Hyatt Travel Experiences
Hyatt has already made some moves in this area by having cultural offerings as part of trip packages and now the partnership with Oasis to provide homes as hotels for people on the go.
Now, they joing the other major hotel brands by offering some special experiences that can either earn 3 Hyatt points per dollar when purchased or redeemed for with Hyatt points. These bonus points will be offered until January 31, 2018.
These are not auctions like some of the other hotels offer but are fixed price packages that may interest people looking for that special something.
Point Value Is Not High
I perused through the packages and found the value of Hyatt points (at least at the items I looked at) to be a consistent .7 cents per point if redeemed for these experiences. I would definitely not advise using points for these packages as it is very easy to get at least double that in value on hotel reservations.
Also, if you book with points and then need to cancel the package, you will not receive the points back but will receive a credit with IfOnly that is good for one year.
Hyatt’s New Travel-worthy Experiences
But, if you do like to get that special experience and you want to pay for it, from now until January 31, 2018, World of Hyatt members will have exclusive access to book these experiences that are supplied through IfOnly.com.
Here is what Hyatt has to say about this new aspect of their program offerings:
World of Hyatt is now offering members the opportunity to find inspiration for their next travel destination through booking exclusive Travel-worthy Experiences powered by IfOnly, the premier marketplace for one-of-a-kind experiences.
These Travel-worthy Experiences, located across several destinations in the U.S. and Europe, are carefully curated by IfOnly to “wow” and be memorable, and are another key step in Hyatt’s strategy to engage with high-end travelers in more ways beyond traditional hotel stays.
Book a private helicopter tour of Chicago, paired with dinner at an iconic Italian Restaurant; an afternoon with a zookeeper for behind-the-scenes access at the San Francisco Zoo; or backstage passes to the Broadway play Kinky Boots to meet the star of the show, in New York City.
Takeaway
Right now, there are only 10 packages and they are not all cheap! I think this type of offering will cater to the person who enjoys a packaged experience that is ready to go and does not mind the cost for it.
If you are going to some once-in-a-lifetime place, that may definitely be more enticing to splurge for something interesting. But, if it is in your own city and costs $3,000 for something special, I guess we will have to see how popular something like that is.
Still, it is nice to see hotels continuing to try and offer things for their customers, even if not all customers will be buyers. I am sure this will be a big deal with many even though it might not be to some of us.

I’m going with the Balloon Expedition over Mt. Everest!!
What a deal! I could use 651,875,000 Hyatt points or $5,215,000. and that’s for TWO PEOPLE. Nice.
If I book and pay I’ll get 3x points so that would net me an additional 15,645,000 points. That’s nice too.
Man this is tough…
What to do .. What to do.
Suggestions?
And now I am just seeing your comment on this post! Great deal indeed. 🙂
