After opening up Google Fi to most of the popular smartphones, Google is now bringing even faster data to 33 countries. This means you will be able to get those photos uploaded to Instagram even faster when you are standing at the Western Wall, taking in the beauty of Iceland or visiting the Acropolis. 🙂
33 Countries Are Getting Faster Data for Google Fi Phones
Google announced Using Google Fi in 33 countries is about to get a speed upgrade! That will mean faster directions, video calls, and your photo take on popular destinations getting uploaded quicker than before. yesterday that the following countries will see faster data speeds for Google Fi customers (using Fi phones – more below):
Having used Google Fi on my iPhone in 10 of those countries already, I am pretty impressed with the current speeds! I am curious to see how much better is will get with this new update.
Google says that this speed update will work with “phones designed for Fi” which means things like the companies Pixel devices and other phones in their Google Store.
From that, it would seem that this upgrade is occurring with a software upgrade for those phones but I think they are just trying to cover their bases since support for other phones (like iPhone) is very new and they don’t want new customers to get frustrated with that.
In the past, speed updates like this that were only for the phones worked equally well with data only SIMs so I would expect that this speed upgrade will work nicely on the Google Fi SIMs for other phones as well.
Pings are pretty high. Do they use a bounce back to USA like T-Mobile?
Yes, they do. It actually comes in handy for certain services/websites that only work in the US but the high ping rate obviously isn’t great for some other things.
I just got Google Fi. I had the SIM card put in my old iPhone. Can I use that sim card in my current iPhone when out of the country? Then swap sims when back in the country?
Also, do they offer a data only SIM card?
TIA
