Two months ago, Amazon released their latest edition of their wildly popular Kindle device – the Kindle Paperwhite. This time around, they did such a good job with it that they even pulled features from higher priced devices to make this a better deal.

In fact, they were so successful with those new features that they were actually able to phase out one of their higher-tiered Kindle devices altogether, the Kindle Voyage. Unfortunately, the timing of this release was not great for dealhunters. Since it came out just before Black Friday, there was no way they were going to discount it for the awesome Black Friday Kindle deals we have seen in the past.
Instead, retailers like Best Buy tried to push off a Kindle Paperwhite that was 3 years old at the same price that last year’s model was selling for multiple times this year! Fortunately, Amazon has finally dropped the price on of the brand new, waterproof Kindle Paperwhite.
The sale price is $99. That is $20 more than the sale price of the older Paperwhites but I think it is a good tradeoff for price vs features. You now get a Kindle Paperwhite that is thinner, waterproof, and even has Audible support built-in via bluetooth.
The trade off is that when it launched, it came with 6 months of Kindle Unlimited, a $60 value if you pay month-to-month. Now, it does not have that. The good news is that if you are interested in using Kindle Unlimited (which you should at least try!) is that you can get it for $.99 for two months (see this post to sign-up).
Whether you want to get this Kindle as a gift or for yourself, I think this is probably the best deal we are going to see on the Kindle Paperwhite until at least February. I have owned many Kindles and I am looking forward to trying this one at some point.
