Last week, I mentioned that Aegean Airlines and their fare sales will become more relevant going forward since it will remain the easiest way to receive Star Alliance Gold (if you take 4 Aegean Airline flights and credit 12,000 miles per year to retain it). Here is a fare sale that could work well for anyone traveling in Europe over the next several months.
Aegean Airlines Fare Sale
This fare sale is valid for bookings made by October 14. The fare sale encompasses several cities around Europe – Vienna, Budapest, Prague, Zurich, and Warsaw. It is a tiered discount depending on when you plan on flying. Here is how it breaks down (according to travel dates):
- 11/20 – 12/15 – 20% Off
- 12/16 – 1/15/2015 – 30% Off
- 1/16/2015 – 3/31/2015 – 40% Off
Obviously, the cheaper flights are those in January through March. Believe it or not, that is not such a bad time to visit Europe! Things can actually be cheaper then which makes it nice as well. To access these fares, you can go right to this website to book (make sure you use a credit card with no foreign transaction fees)
The good news is that the discounts are taken directly from the fares and fuel surcharges (but not the taxes). The bad news is (for elite status seekers) these discounts are only valid on the direct flights to Athens. This does not mean that you cannot book to other cities. Bookings made to other cities will have the discount levered against the flights to/from Athens and these cities and then the regular price to the next city. Still, these fares can be a nice way to either bounce around Europe a bit or get rid of those 4 qualifying flights for renewing your Aegean Gold (and thereby Star Alliance Gold) status.
