If you want to get some great business and first class awards out of your SPG points, this transfer bonus should work for you! But, you must act soon!

Tomorrow (August 21) is the last day of this Aeroplan bonus on hotel point transfer bonuses. If you have been on the fence about it, time to make a decision as it could really give you some great value, especially with your SPG points.

Get More Value from Your SPG Points With This Aeroplan Bonus

Aeroplan bonus

This Aeroplan bonus on hotel point transfers works with many hotels, not just SPG, but the greatest value on this will come with SPG points. Here are the details about this Aeroplan bonus:

Aeroplan Bonus Details:

  • Bonus offer valid only on conversions received from eligible hotel partner loyalty programs points into Aeroplan Miles made between July 17 and August 21, 2017 (11:59 EDT).
  • Bonus Aeroplan Miles will be issued by Aeroplan as follows: once the total Aeroplan Miles are earned by exchanging points from any combination of eligible partner programs during the promotion, the bonus miles deposited will represent 35% of the total miles earned from the exchange
  • BONUS MILE CREDITING: Bonus Aeroplan Miles may take up to 4‑6 weeks to be credited after the promotional offer end date of August 21, 2017.

Don’t forget – SPG points do not transfer instantly to Aeroplan and can take a few days!

Aeroplan bonus

Aeroplan is offering a boost of 35% on the points transferred over. This works with the following hotel programs:

  • SPG
  • Marriott
  • Hilton
  • Club Carlson
  • Best Western
  • Wyndham Rewards
  • COAST Hotels
  • Choice Hotels
  • Le Club Accor Hotels
  • Shrangi-La Hotels

You will need to check the various hotel programs for their transfer ratio to airlines. SPG has the strongest transfer ratio of 1:1 with a 5,000 mile boost for every block of 20,000 points transferred (only up to 79,999 per day so make sure you only transfer 60,000 points to maximize it).

Too Late?

Since the terms says it works on conversions made up until August 21, even if your miles do not post until after that date, you should still be fine as long as the transaction begins before that date. This worked with the last promo like that for me. If you were thinking of transferring to Aeroplan anyway, this is just a great time to do it anyway!

The Value of this Aeroplan Bonus

This means that during this Aeroplan bonus promo, transferring 20,000 SPG points to Aeroplan would result in 33,750 Aeroplan points. With business class flights between the US and much of Europe at 55,000 miles (57,500 miles for Eastern Europe), that means you would be able to get there with only 40,000 Starpoints (which would total 67,500 miles, more than enough!).

It also means you are just 2,500 miles shy of being able to redeem for something like Lufthansa First Class between the US and Frankfurt! That is an incredible value so check it out and run the math to see if it works for you.

I normally transfer my SPG points to Aegean to take advantage of their 45,000 mile business class awards between the US and Europe. That would require 40,000 SPG points transferred to give me a total of 50,000 Aegean miles. Not bad, but I am limited to a single connection with Aegean. With this Aeroplan bonus, even though business class between the US and Eastern Europe costs 57,500 miles, it still only takes 40,000 SPG points – plus I can have more than one connection (and 10,000 extra miles, also!)

Getting Free Hotel Nights, Too

I am not completely sure if there would be enough time to make sure it codes correctly for the transfer, but if you felt you wanted to give it a try, you could transfer 90,000 SPG points to Marriott to have 270,000 points. These can then be used to get 7 nights at a Category 1 – 5 and 162,000 Aeroplan miles! Great deal indeed – and one I messed up! Again, I’m not sure if there is enough time but there it is if you are interested!

How Long Does It Take For the Bonus Points To Post?

While the promo says it may take 4-6 weeks from the end of the promotion, I received the first batch of transfer bonus points within 1 week from the time the points posted from the hotel transfer. That is great news indeed! It means that if you transfer your SPG points today, you could see the SPG points in your Aeroplan account by next Sunday and then the bonus miles from Aeroplan by the end of the next week.
