Update: As of March 22, 2016, this award now costs 62,500 AA miles.
Etihad’s new A380 and the reimagined luxury cabins aboard are about to take flight soon. Ben, One Mile At A Time, will be onboard their inaugural flight from Abu Dhabi to London in the First Apartments class so it should be exciting to see what his perspective is of it. But, believe it or not, the First Apartment class is not even as great as it gets. They also have a single “seat” called The Residence which is basically flying charter aboard commercial – private butler, bedroom, sitting room, and bathroom! However, that comes at a price – $20,000 one-way Abu Dhabi to London – and you cannot use partner miles for that!
However, you can use partner miles, like American Airline miles, for the First Apartment seats! It costs about $20 and the phone booking fee (because it is a partner flight it must be booked over the phone) of $35 and 40,000 miles (for one-way). But you can book that on miles and experience probably one of the best airplane experiences you will have –and I just booked mine!
Booking Etihad’s A380 Apartment With Miles
To find award space, head over to the Etihad rewards page – here – and enter Abu Dhabi to London (or reverse). Then choose First.
Next, you need to look for Guest First space. That is what will be bookable with partner miles. In our example here, it does show it as available so you can simply call American Airlines (800-882-8880) to book it!
I actually am seeing a lot of dates with availability for Guest First – even flights with more than 1 available seat – so if you want to fly this plane, you only need 40,000 miles (one-way)! And to get to and from London and Abu Dhabi!
But, I have my ticket booked and can’t wait to see and review it for myself!
The wife and I are flying from AUH-IAD next week in F, can’t wait! Making the kids slog it out in business. 330ish days ago we had no problem snagging 2 seats in each cabin.

Am I missing a trick here? The screengrab shows 55,354 miles needed, so where does the 40,000 number come from?
It was based on the AA partner award chart which has unfortunately changed now to require 62,500 miles.
