Today, June 6, is National Running Day. A lot of runners went out to do something interesting, or at least get a run in today in honor of this celebrated day. Of course I ran – a 9 miler – but I also did something else that mixed the running/travel interests that we have. I had found out last month that I had successfully gained entry to the St. George Marathon. This was my second year entering (it is a lottery system since they get so many entries and can only pick 7,400 runners) but my first year getting in. Thanks to my elite status with Delta, I had actually booked an award ticket before I even knew the results (I could have cancelled it at no charge because of my status). After I found out I made it, I began to be unhappy with my award redemption – the lowest I was able to get was 40,000 miles. Buying the ticket was out because it costs around $500 round-trip, so I knew it would have to be an award.
After looking at my different options, I ended up with a really great idea that would allow me to visit and review a new place that I have highlighted here before (but had never been to). I found a way to get a ton of redeemable miles and elite miles to help me requalify for way less than it would have cost me to fly to St. George. The details on that will be forthcoming in a different post, but I promise it will be something interesting!
