It is around this time of year (normally a little later) that Amex/SPG like to hike up their sign-up bonuses on their cards. We have seen hikes to 30,000 and 35,000 and this time around, it is back up to the best offer – 35K SPG points! Check out the details below!
Best Offers! Earn 35K SPG Points with These Card Offers

Here are the details for the 35K SPG points on the Personal Card from American Express.
- Earn 25,000 bonus Starpoints® after you use your new Card to make $3,000 in purchases within the first 3 months
- Earn an extra 10,000 bonus Starpoints after you make an additional $2,000 in purchases within the first 6 months
- Annual fee – $95 (waived the first year)
- Receive elite status credit of 5 nights and 2 stays each year
- You are not eligible for this bonus if you have ever had the card before!
- Offer ends 4/5/2017
To get the full 35K SPG points, you will need to spend a total of $5,000 over the first 6 months (with $3,000 needing to be spent in the first 3 months). This is similar to the award structure of old that gave 10,000 points on first purchase and then an additional 15,000 points with $3,000 in spending over 6 months. I like structures like this because it makes the spending easier and you do not get penalized if you do not hit the full spending. You will still get 25,000 points as long as you spend the first $3,000 in 3 months.
This is actually a very reasonable spending requirement as it comes to $834 in spending per month for 6 months (on the average – you will need to do $3,000 in 3 months to get the first 25K). I think most people can do that without too much difficulty when you consider things like cell phone bills, electric bills, gas – not to mention groceries!

Here are the details for the 35K SPG points on the Business Card from American Express.
- Earn 25,000 bonus Starpoints after you use your new Card to make $5,000 in purchases within the first 3 months
- Earn an extra 10,000 bonus Starpoints after you make an additional $3,000 in purchases within the first 6 months
- Annual fee – $95 (waived the first year)
- Receive elite status credit of 5 nights and 2 stays each year
- Enjoy complimentary, unlimited Boingo Wi-Fi on up to four devices at more than 1,000,000 Boingo hotspots worldwide.‡ Enrollment Required
- Enjoy complimentary access to the Sheraton® Club lounge. Booking requirements apply‡
- You are not eligible for this bonus if you have ever had the card before!
- Offer ends 4/5/2017
This one requires a little more spending, because it is a small business card. To get the full 35K SPG points, you will need to spend a total of $8,000 over 6 months (with $5,000 in the first 3 months). This is still a pretty reasonable amount, especially for a small business card.
The SPG Business card carries some extra perks with it that include the complimentary, unlimited Boingo WiFi at hotspots around the world and access to the Sheraton Club lounge on bookings. Those perks on a card that carries the same annual fee as the Personal card make this one an easy winner and one that you may want to hold over the personal card, if you only choose one to carry.
However, both cards together will give you that special 10 nights and 4 stays towards elite status each year which can be a big help if you wanted to hit Platinum this year (requiring 25 stays or 50 nights), which would also give you Marriott Platinum status which, in turn, gives you United Premier Silver status! Since award stays count towards elite credit as well, you could easily achieve Platinum status with very little out of pocket expenses with the bonuses on these two cards.
The Big Haul – Total of 70,000 SPG Points (83,000 points counting the spend)
If you apply for both of these SPG cards, you will end up with a total of 83,000 SPG points when you figure in the spend. That is fantastic by itself, especially when you take into account the fact that you can transfer these points at 1:3 to Marriott – giving you 249,000 Marriott points and just shy of the magic number of 270,000 Marriott points which would give you 7 nights at a Category 1-5 and the Southwest Companion Pass (through March 31).
These points also put you in a position to have 103,000 airline miles in various programs when you transfer in blocks of 20,000 (to get the bonus of 5,000 miles on the transfer). These are just a couple of the awesome uses of this many points so definitely give these two cards a look!
Takeaway
These Amex credit card offers for 35K SPG points is the highest they have reached and likely to be the last huge offer we see from them. With the SPG and Marriott integration continuing on, it is likely that we will not see an offer from Amex like this again. These offers are incredibly strong offers and should definitely be considered! If we did not already have these cards, I would definitely be applying for them!
Hi Charlie any issue with applying for both the Business and personal on the same day? Thanks
Hi, Evan,
You can but it may send the second one to pending or denial. You can call in to check it over the phone if that happens. I have had no problem in the past doing that (of course, since I have had almost all the Amex cards, that has been a little while!)
Hi, I saw on another post that you said it is alright to post referral links. Please let me know if it is not okay.
SPG Personal Card 35K Offer. I GREATLY Appreciate your help!

I applied for the personal card in January, and now find out that American Express is only offering 25,000 points, NOT the 35,000 points that they advertised. Did anyone else check with Amex to see if they will get the additional 10,000 points after 6 months? It needs to be on your app in order to qualify for it, and apparently, they didn’t put it on my account. No explanation why.
That is strange! You did it during the 35K bonus time? I would call back and ask to speak to a supervisor.
I did chat with a supervisor and saved the chat. He said it was not on my application, which I did from the promo page on the American Express website. Yes, I did it in January, during the 35k bonus time. I wonder how many other people will find that they did not get the additional 10k points, after completing the additional $2k spend in the first six months. I think it’s a crappy way to do business, American Express. Kind of like they used to do rebates, they all got lost in the mail and if you didn’t follow up, you didn’t get the rebate. American Express used to be better than this. I really would like to follow up with anyone who applied for this offer to see if they actually get the additional 10k points in 6 months.
