Worst Fear When Racing in a Different City

There are actually a few different fears that come to mind when racing in a different city. Some of them are – breaking a bone (that is pretty much a bad thing anytime but worse when away from home), getting lost wandering the city, not making the final flight to the destination, etc. However, my worst fear is missing my alarm race morning. I get kind of strange when it comes to setting the alarm – I check it constantly to make sure I set it for the right time, the right AM/PM, volume’s up, close enough for me to not sleep through it but far enough way that I can’t hit snooze. It would be a terrible thing to miss the start of the race because I missed my alarm, especially when it is a race that I traveled a far way to get to. As I write this, I am already starting to worry about the alarm for tomorrow… What is your worst fear racing in a different city?

  • I set my watch and phone to military 24 hour time so I never get the am/pm wrong. I still triple check that they are both set to go off though… can never be too careful 🙂

  • Why don’t you get the hotel to give you a wake up call and a reminder 10 minutes later? I ran the Dubai Creek Striders HM in December last year and had a blast.
My worst fear running in a different city/country is usually the available medical support if needed..
    Goodluck in tomorrow’s race.
