The other day, I wrote about how the federal government was suspending Trusted Traveler Programs (like Global Entry) for NY residents. This was in response to the NYS “Green Light Law” and was a suspension of any new applicants or renewals.
Pending Global Entry Applications Are Being Cancelled (for NY Residents)
Unfortunately, as a reader pointed out to me, this also affects people who had a conditional approval, or pending status. Applicants who were renewing or signing up and had their status as “pending” are now finding their applications just completely missing. This affects Global Entry, SENTRI, FAST, and NEXUS (but not TSA Precheck).
This is in keeping with the CBP statement about this new change. The statement also says that those fees will be automatically refunded to the applicants. If you had paid months ago (since the process was taking a long time), definitely be checking back to see if this indeed happens. This could be a tough thing for those who used a credit card with the fee reimbursement but have since closed that card.
Here is the part of their statement addressing this: “New York residents will no longer be eligible to apply for or renew membership in CBP Trusted Traveler Programs and CBP will cancel all pending Trusted Traveler Program applications submitted by residents of New York. Refunds will be processed automatically.”
They go on to say, “New York residents who are currently enrolled in Trusted Travel Programs will retain their benefits until their memberships expire.”
