A couple of weeks ago, you may have remembered seeing some posts about the United Explorer card offer of the 40,000 miles (plus the 5,000 miles for authorized user) plus the $100 statement credit being in its last days.
Well, if you were to check the Chase and United home page (as well as many blogs), you will find that to be true (the 40,000 miles remain but the $100 credit is gone). However, the United Explorer offer of 45,000 miles and $100 statement credit is still available.
The United Explorer 45,000 Miles + $100 Credit Offer Is Still Available – Here

This is what Chase and other issuers of co-branded cards often do – they roll out a “limited-time offer” on a card and then pull it and reduce the award on the bonus. However, what they typically will do is to still have that offer (or at least a better version of the affiliate offer) available on the co-branded site. This is used to snag customers who happen to be doing business with the travel chain at the time – a prime customer since they are obviously about to purchase the product from the hotel or airline.
In this case, when you search for a flight on United.com, you will see in the upper corner the old offer that was to have expired (which the link above goes to). If you click it, you will not find any kind of “limited-time” language so you do not have to exactly feel rushed.
Here is what this United Explorer offer has in the details:
- Receive 40,000 miles after spending $2,000 in the first 3 months
- Receive a $100 statement credit after your first purchase
- Receive 5,000 bonus miles after adding an authorized user and making a single purchase on that card
- $100 Global Entry Reimbursement
- 2 United Club Passes
- 25% back on United in-flight food, drinks and entertainment
- 2X miles on purchases with United and hotels
- Annual fee: $95 (waived the first year)
That was and continues to be a very decent offer. We have seen larger ones in the past but if you need the miles (or you cannot find an award and need expanded availability – one of my favorite benefits of this card), this is a good offer to go for.
The 55,000 Mile Offer

However, there is still a 55,000 mile offer as well but you will be giving up the $100 statement credit and will need to spend an extra $1,000 to get the miles. But, it gives you a choice!
- Receive 50,000 miles after spending $3,000 in the first 3 months
- Receive 5,000 bonus miles after adding an authorized user and making a single purchase on that card
- $100 Global Entry Reimbursement
- 2 United Club Passes
- 25% back on United in-flight food, drinks and entertainment
- 2X miles on purchases with United and hotels
- Annual fee: $95 (waived the first year)
And then, we also have a targeted offer of the same 55,000 miles with the $100 statement credit. You can login here to see if you were targeted for that one.
