When it comes to expensive times for travel, Thanksgiving is definitely right up there in cost! It is a huge family holiday for those in the US and there are a lot of cars and planes crossing the country to sit and feast on turkey before heading out for some Black Friday shopping the next day.
Airlines do run some sales around that time, but mostly to help you escape the US if you would rather celebrate (or not) Thanksgiving abroad. It is not uncommon to see business class tickets to Europe for between $1,500 – $2,000 for the weeks around Thanksgiving.

But, what if you are staying domestic and want to get with family? Most people try one of two things – booking months in advance or waiting until the last minute in hopes that the airlines have a burst of good cheer and drop prices. Either way, it is a gamble and can cause you to spend way more money than you would like!
Thankfully, we have our friendly Southwest Airlines to the rescue with their awesome cancellation policy and easy rebooking when you find cheaper rates. To help you even more, they are highlighting their lower fares around the Thanksgiving holiday with some really good deals for your travels (note: this is similar to their recently-ended sale but is only for the 2 weeks around Thanksgiving for now).
Please note the blackout dates. Flights on Thanksgiving or the day after are included but 2 days before Thanksgiving and 2 days after Black Friday are blacked out. BUT, while looking through their calendar at various city pairs, I did find that the blackout dates were not actually enforced so do check around!

Book With Southwest Points For Good Value
Like all other Southwest sales, these cheap prices can also be used to redeem with points. For example, a $39 fare would cost 1,660 points and $5.60 giving the points a great value of 2.31 cents per point! A great deal indeed!
