United has not let 2020 stop them from releasing or refreshing their credit cards. This latest credit card, the United Gateway Credit Card, comes with 20,000 miles after spending $1,000 and – best of all for many – no annual fee. But, there is one more benefit that really makes this a card to keep.

First, let’s do a quick rundown on the basic benefits of the new United Airlines Gateway credit card.
- Earn 20,000 United miles after spending $1,000 in the first 3 months of card opening
- 3 miles per dollar on grocery store purchases, up to $1,500 per month, until September 30, 2021.
- 2 miles per dollar on United purchases, gas stations, local transit and commuting, including ride share services, taxicabs, train tickets, tolls, and mass transit
- No annual fee
As credit cards go, it is a pretty decent offer for a sign-up bonus. Not bad since you could get a roundtrip, short-haul flight with the bonus.
Expanded Award Availability – with No Annual Fee
But, an even better benefit about this card is something that United credit cards have had for a while and a perk I am a huge fan of. The United Airlines Gateway credit card gives you expanded availability on award tickets on all United flights. This is a huge benefit since it unlocks award seats that may cost a lot more in miles otherwise or not even be available.
United Airlines elite members have this access and so do United credit card holders. Having this card is great for United flyers since you can keep it and never pay an annual fee yet always get that expanded availability.
You can read more about this perk here but I am happy to see it on this card and will be downgrading my regular United card to this at some point (since I really don’t value the lounge passes since I have Star Gold status).
There have been other United credit cards with no annual fee but at least you can get this one with a sign-up bonus!
