One of the gutting changes that occurred today with American Airlines and their award devaluation was the banishment of most of the off peak awards on their calendar. They have only left Europe and limited the dates that it is available (while raising the price slightly).
The AA Off Peak Award Calendar Lives On With Alaska
But, if you are still trying to use your miles at a discount for travel around the world and feel really disappointed with the gutting of the off peak awards, you are in luck. Alaska Airlines still has their award charts for American Airlines displaying the off peak awards that American Airlines offered themselves until today.
Here is what you need to know about booking these off-peak awards with Alaska Airlines:
- Unlike AA’s awards, you can only book American Airline flights at the off peak prices using Alaska Airlines awards (with AA miles, you could book on any partner at the reduced mileage rates)
- You cannot transfer AA miles to Alaska Airlines
- There is no word on the charts as to when (or if) these awards will be updated to reflect AA’s new chart so do not dawdle!
No telling if/when Alaska will reflect the AA charts and get rid of the off peak pricing. The one thing that could be in our favor with it is that Alaska Airlines still charges the roundtrip pricing for one way awards on Delta – even though Delta got rid of that pricing structure a while ago. So, either Alaska is not in a hurry to update these things or something else is at play with how the awards are offered to Alaska Airline members.
Some of the best awards to book with Alaska Airline miles are going to be premium cabin awards, but this is still a great way to take advantage of generous off-peak pricing on American Airlines now that AA has gotten rid of the pricing themselves. The Off Peak Award Charts

While the miles come in at a much lower amount on credit card bonuses with Alaska (25,000 miles currently), they are much easier to open. They are even easier to earn than AA bonuses as you do not have to spend a penny on the card to get the bonus!
Of course, there is a lot of value in keeping Alaska miles for premium redemptions like Emirates First Class but it is nice to still have access to AA’s off peak pricing for award travel on American Airlines.
Matter of time before it goes away.
