As I wrote about before, compared to the Chicago Marathon, I think the Marine Corps Marathon has handled things very well for those interested in running it. Now, the Marine Corps Marathon has announced a live marathon date – as well as what you need to know about registering for it.
The 2021 Marine Corps Marathon Registration is Open

The Cost is $55 for the Marathon and the 50K (each)
I did the virtual Marine Corps Marathon last year and absolutely loved the medal – one of the best medals I have had! They did a nice job of pricing everything pretty decently (unlike Grandma’s Marathon which wants the same $135 fee as if you run the real race) and keeping everyone encouraged.
This year, the Marine Corps Marathon is set to take place on October 31, 2021. However, this is if everything goes ok and they get the go-ahead from the town/city/community officials as things get closer.
The nice thing is that they are giving everyone who registers for the virtual marathon the first shot at registering for the live marathon (after the people who are in line first like active duty, runners from last year, etc.). This means that if you want a chance at running the actual Marine Corps Marathon, you will need to sign up for the virtual one! Only after they have worked there way through those signups would they open it to others.
To me, this is a great way to handle it – as long as they do not charge a whole separate race fee (like a normal one) on top of the virtual fee. This way, they get those who want to participate virtually to sign-up and then reward them with a shot at the live – should it go off.
For the virtual marathon, you will have several weeks in October/early November to finish the 26.2 miles. I already signed up for the 2021 Marine Corps Marathon, virtual edition! I am also signed up for the London Marathon in October so I have a couple now to run!
